as any biker will tell you, observation is not the average drivers strong point..

was hit by a car on the way home tonight (on motorbike, thankfully NOT the GPz), i was filtering past stationary traffic, when he decided to turn right without checking his mirrors, there was no contact between the bike and his car, but a bit of a whack to my knee. (nothing bad, hurt for about 30 secs) when i noticed he couldn't speak English, i waved a one fingerd salute, and carried on..

too close for comfort though..

its a damned shame, because as you can see, the rest of the engine was in really good shape!

Projects / mustang progress...

a good used engine has been found (cheap!), and is winging its way to rapid, where the car currently is.

all being well, it will be back up and running mid week, next week. the bill for this one should be in three rather than four figures!

it may yet be at AAC UK nationals for sale!

Projects / Pimpin Philo's lexus
April 08, 2008, 01:01:07 PM
been busy with the lexus today, sorted the nasty paint on the rear passenger side door, and got the exhaust blow sorted, its now (as ian and vicky will attest) almost earily silent, you honestly struggle to hear it running.. all it took was one joint to be re sealed - £25 for 1/2 hour labour..

bodywork responded well to a good cut buff and polish, all she needs is the bonnet and front bumper painting (heavily stone chipped) and she'll be pretty much mint.

i'm going to get a can of wheel paint from hellfrauds when i get a moment, to paint the wheels (untill i can replace them) and possibly give it an oil change tomorrow.

.... suddenly and without warning, in a big cloud of smoke on the M1 at 75mph.

suspect - head gasket....

so....... to keep me mobile (and MASSIVE thanks to shifty) i have picked up a lexus GS300 - 94 on an L reg.

bit rough around the edges, but seems to start drive and run fine. now currently debating weather to fix and sell the alfa, or sell the lexus when the alfa is fixed..

same, because the alfa is an absolutely sublime car...

well, after Swift autos having the mustang for nearly a month, it was collected and taken to paragon, as swift couldn't find the fault..

Nathan has gone through the car with a fine tooth comb, and again, a blank has been drawn, although something is obviously very wrong (a road test estimated it to be producing about 50bhp) no fault can be found.

a rough estimate on an ECU has come in at about £900, and there is absolutely no guarantee it will solve the problem

so.............................

apparently there is someone Geoff Caverhill at Astoria knows who is excellent in these matters, i'm going to take the car to him for a third crack at the whip, if that fails, its being broken, and i'm going to have to stomach a financial loss of close to 4 grand..

suffice to say, i'm really not happy..

stolen from alfaowner.com

The first round of the 2008 Alfa Romeo Championship is at Silverstone, on the International circuit, on Easter Saturday (22nd March).

This is part of the Britcar meeting. At the moment there are 35 cars entered in the Alfa race and there will probably be a few more that enter this week.

Entry is normally about £12 and I think that children under 12 are admitted free. Entry will allow you to walk around the paddock and view the cars up close.

from memory the britcar series is pretty good.....

not too bad a list for the 166, all pretty easy stuff to sort..

exhaust back box (being done today)
cam belt, tensioner and variator (being done this week)
full valet
small dent on drives door
back light on navigation system screen NFG
no reverse lights
creak from front suspention
new nose badge
magazene from cd autotchanger missing

thats about it.. the car was £2000 below list price, so i got a bit of a budget to play with..

Food and Drink / Peeterman Artois
February 27, 2008, 05:33:37 PM
had a few cans of peeterman artois recently, its a nice lager, especialy (as with all lagers) when served very cold, but where stella has a slightly harsh taste, peeterman tastes a bit different..

on the side of the can is the answer...

Ingredients: water barley malt wheat hops & coriander
