General Banter / Pristene wheels....not impressed.
October 27, 2007, 07:59:20 AM
Took he stang to pristene wheels in Woburn Sands for a quote on refurbing my odd wheel today, and was less than impressed with their attitude...

1) they cant match the colour, they bought out 1 sample of bright silver, i refuse to believe that a wheel refinishers only keep one silver

2) they wont book the car in, you have to bring them a wheel, for some reason its too difficult to jack a car up and undo 5 nuts

3) they seemed to insist there would be some damage to repair on the wheel, even though i assured them the wheel was totaly round and straight, they kept saying the price was "plus any damage that needs repairing" in other words, they are likely charge for damage regardless!

4) they wont fill the pony on the center cap in dark silver

5) they wont turn the center cap, in fact they wont do it at all, apparently its "too thin" to diamond turn... hmmm.. how did that diamond turn finish get on the others? and how much they planning on taking off... as a turner by profession i KNOW this is bulls*it!

for this 'service' they want £84!

on yer bike!

General Banter / Mustang bumpers FAO Ian
October 15, 2007, 06:25:47 PM
Ian,

how much of a PITA is the rear bumper to remove from an SN95? i've got some parts on  the way that would be easier to fit if the bumper were removed, as access is apparently very difficult with it in situ..

mine arrived this morning, and it sure is hefty, the padlock is a little on the lightweight side, but its hardend, and looks sturdy enough, just a bit light to the touch.

chain is a MONSTER though....

well worth £20 deliverd

the GPz awoke from its year of slumber.

test ride revealed a bad indicator connection, and the seat not locking down properly, both easily sorted.. all set for MOT tomorrow

i kinda understand what the reviewer is saying here...

"Overall a stunning force of brewing nature this one is. Like a deep and wide river; quiet and still on the surface, yet powerful and tumultuous underneath. This beer is holy."

ho hum, back in reality i still gotta put the GPz back together, although that is likely to remain simply as a sunny day limited use classic.

Got the stang back today, Swift auto's did a superb job, no sign of rounded bolts, no silicone squidged out, just lots of new gaskets, and a car that runs like new.

Engine has been flushed and got a fresh sump of synthetic oil, and the tranny and cooling systems have been treated to the same. the result is an engine that is totaly mechanicly silent.

peformance is nice and crisp, and economy seems spot on. in all, a job well done.

got to WR&C on friday, all fine, sat morning i felt a bit cold, so got in the car to warm up a bit.. after running for about 10 mins, the heater suddenly went cold.

knowing that aint right, i stopped the engine, and had a look. The coolant was yellow, and right to the top of the bottle.

I summoned dave, who concluded it had gained an air lock somewhere. upon further investigation, the air lock kept returning, so we took the rad cap off, and looked into the radiator with the engine running.

as we lookd in, you could see bubbles coming up through the water, so we went round the back for a sniff, sure enough, coolant in the exhaust..

bugger.. that'll be a head gasket then!
