so i've been trying for about 2 years to loose a bit of weight with no sucess at all...

i have got into the habit of buying 2 cans of red bull when i buy a service station coffee, to drink while the coffee cools a bit..

doing this several times a day recently...

the surround just needs to be solid enough to mount a new screen to without leaking, doesn't need to be an invisible mint repair..

how much do you reckon to repair the surround satin black the roof, and supply and fit a new screen?

the odd looking patches on the roof were where the rust spots had gone into holes. i simply kurusted them, and glassed over them - this method is fine, as the roof isn't very visible, plus the satin black will hide a multitude of evils!

just need to sort the cracked screen, while the screen is out, it makes sense to sort the rust in the surround..

hard drive just crashed big time, looks like everything is gone..

there is a small ammount of rust (not much though) on the screen surround of my van, as my screen has decided to crack (not from rust) roughly how much do you think its likely to cost to remove the screen, make  the surround solid (proly 2 or 3 repair sections abouit 2" long each) DA the roof, (if any of the rust patches are into holes just fibreglass them once the rust has been ground out) paint the roof satin black, and have a new screen in?

i'll try and get some photos of the roof..

it doesn't need to be a perfect job, just make it solid, so the new screen will seal properly. and so the roof is all black.

the rust on the roof is about 9 or 10 patches, about the size of a 50p piece each. a couple have gone through,but i ground them, kurusted the metal, and glassed over the hole with isopon P40 - this method is fine for all of them, as the roof isn't visible..

any idea on cost? i'll try and grab some photos..

on the way out last night, i suddenly noticed something...


yup, for no apparent reason at all, the windscreen in the astro has cracked!

about 3 inches long, just above the area for the vin number, so i cant even see it from the drivers seat, unless i look in the gap between the instrument binicle and the steering wheel..

phoned autoglass (apparently some cracks can be repaired) and they weren't interested, but launched into their hard sell for a new screen, even offering to phone my insurance co and sort that out.. the reason they were so keen to sell me a screen? they want £620 for it!

clay windscreens will be able to do it, going on the cost of the one i had in my cutlass (£160 + VAT) i'm guessing about £250

i'm gonna speak to rocky, because there are a couple of bits around the screen that could use a repair, and might as well get the roof painted while the screen is out..

just drove the camaro for the first time in about 4 weeks.. runs fine, did about 30 miles.

just as i was putting it back in the garage, the service light came on

stopped the engine and re started, and it was out, and its running fine, so its most likely a sensor on the way out..

ho hum, next sat i'll have to take it to us auto to have a scan.. cant see it being much wrong....

its been 4 years and 40,000 miles since i last had an SES light, so its not really that big a deal!

the guy who taught me to drive, and later a colegue of dads has ogled the tahoe from the first day he saw it..

never driven a yank before, but tomorrow he and dad are going to look at a 97 suburban 6.5 diesel!

i think he's gonna buy it too!

he's a great honest regular guy, and i think its quite possible we will see him at our meets in summer..
