I was watching the latest Engine Masters and they were talking about carbs and intakes / inlet manifolds.

Not exactly what you are doing, however I found it interesting and you might too:

Nice job dude.

Always good progress when you offer everything up and see it together.

Let us know how you get on with the Helicoils.

BOO!  :lalala:

Quote from: Roadkill on January 26, 2016, 12:47:33 PMI've just finished the assembly drawing so they can hopefully start welding it up tomorrow / Thursday.

It's crude but this is how it should look like (there's more going on to add but this is the current gist of it) :

I find it strange that you can do all of that, but you don't get involved with wiring.

see:

Ah wait, I did not notice that your bar is angled forward to connect to the bottom arms, from the pictures, it looked like it was a straight ARB that connected only to the Axle!  My bad!

Yep, I know you would have good solid logical reasoning behind your decisions.

Anyway, back to the more fun stuff, please can you colour the Boogie Man logo?  :cowboy:

Looks like some good upgrades and maintenance.

For my interest, how does the Anti-roll bar that runs parallel under the axle work?

In my mind, the axle is a ridged tube, that is already connected and is a massive ARB by design. Surely the ARB stays at the same angle as the axle and has no effect on the suspension?

The intake looks very nice and quite well made, however, their service provides doubt as to the durability and quality, especially if something is faulty or breaks on it, I cannot imagine them taking it back for a refund  :nono2: Hopefully that will not have to happen though!

Well done to you for trying something new and engineering a new piece of hardware, it looks like a beast of an intake! :clap3:

Scratch that, just checked with him and the garage owner is getting annoyed with 'private' favours being done, it would have to be booked in through the garage instead, which, will not be beer money. Sorry dude :(

Hmm, hooked the code reader up and it's not showing any codes.

Ideas ???? :pass:

I have always found the cheap OBD readers useless for 'older' cars.

Try the check on the speed sensors as Incursus says, if that does not show anything obvious, then perhaps ask a buddy at a garage to plug it in to a professional reader?

I know someone in Fenny Stratford who will happily do it for beer money if you need them.

:rasp: :sad2:

It was super crusty though, I am still finding parts to repair, as you can read above  :nono2:

You know what would help? Your nasty old, crappy aircooled 1600 engine now that you have the super powerful and reliable Subaru engine to replace it with.  :pokey:

Handbrake

After removing any traces of rust from the Handbrake leaver, I repainted it, then sealed the back with silicone sealant, whilst leaving a small section open to allow and condensation to drain. I decided to do this as the bottom quarter of the leaver is exposed to the road and will accumulate water and dirt, leading to more rust. It just seemed logical to seal it up.

All dry, ready to be installed.

Installed on a new pivot pin with new clips and fresh grease.

Moves smoothly.

Engine Bay / Deck Lid Repair

I was about to install the deck-lid rubber when I noticed that the lip which holds the rubber was bent.

So, I gently tapped it back into shape using an Allen-key as a mould, which, seemed to work well.

However, the tapping cracked some of the protection paint, therefore I had to key and degrease it ready for another top-coat.

Engine Bay / Deck Lid Rubber Seal

This rubber seal came with the bus when I bought it. It was new and in a bag with 'Engine Lid Seal '68-'70' on the label, so I assume it is the correct one. However, the seal was one complete piece, which meant that the removable valance would pull the whole seal with it when it was removed for access to the engine. I decided to cut the seal at an angle and install the seal as a two piece, one on the Engine Bay surround and one on the valance.

The angle of the cuts should mean that the seal joins and seals when the Deck-lid is closed.

Project Progress:
[3%] Wiring Loom diagram.
[0%] Wiring Loom component purchase. (Waiting on above)
[0%] Wiring Loom fabricate. (Waiting on above)
[0%] Paint rear drums.
[0%] Fit rear drums.
[0%] Plan and purchase complete Hydraulic braking system.
[0%] Fit Complete Hydraulic braking system.
[0%] Accelerator Peddle Components. (Going to look at Buttys Bits for this as I have read good things about his conversion kit).
[0%] Rear Windows Tints.
[0%] Rear Windows Install.
[5%] Revise Front Axle / Brake Drums / Track-Rods / Re Torque all.
[70%] Handbrake Mechanism.
[5%] Chassis Tidy (Annoying one, which delays progress. There are some areas of the chassis (more than I was expecting) which could do with tidying / sealing. Some of the joins are not as close / tidy as they should be, which I think will become a water trap.
[80%] Fit Deck-Lid / Engine hatch seal

Nice, looks tidy and big, I like it!  :mooncar:

I have noticed that Shoguns have a lot of passenger space in the rear compared to similar 4x4s.

We went to NIreland earlier this year and I had a '14 plate Shogun as a rental car. It was great to drive with a high driving position. There was something about it I did not like, but I cannot remember what it was. I will probably remember later.
