Guys,

Need a tow bar (shite little thing will do) and an old retro style roof rack for my mondeo... Any ideas where I can start to look?

TIA

daveyboy

remember mate them shite little towbars are now part of an mot if you have one fitted.

any scrappy should see you getting one for a few quid though, and as for wiring your mondy should have a leccy plug to plug straight into.

What's the requirements? Seems daft, surely you can just remove it for the MOT?

Got my towey from the scrapyard for £20 quid, then just wired it in myself to the rear lights.

Not sure about a rack - I'd like one too..

The main Mondeo forum is http://www.fordmondeo.org/forum/fusionbb.php?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http://www.fordmondeo.org/forum/fusionbb.php? but it isn't that great for asking questions as they are too worried about who is a 'paid' member and who isn't

Oooooooohhh controversial lol, I am a paid member though

The roof rack I'm not sure about, those two rubber strips pull up but I believe the bars that come as standard that fit in there have to fixed by drilling through the roof. Have seen some though that clamp on using the top of the door jam but to be honest they don't look terribly safe.

Tow bar on a hatch needs a bit more work I believe than the estate as you have to cut some of the pedestrian/ crash foam and possibly remove a bit of the bumper.

The wiring shouldn't be too difficult I believe there is on most cars a bit of loom left under the boot carpet for adding the sockets on afterwards, though with all things Ford this doesn't mean it'll be there/work/have the fuses connected.

My friend has just picked up a Mk2 for the engine and will be breaking it, I'll see if it has a hitch and the frame to bolt it to the chassis, long shot but worth a try!

I can confirm that you will have to hard-wire it in yourself - there is no 'plug' to go straight into I just piggy-backed from the rear lights, made it tidy

it its an early one, dont forget the gaffa tape that seems to be on just about every mk1 mondeo out there...

Andy

The Mk2 or Mk1.5 if you prefer are far worse. The bumpers are about 2-3mm thick and made from PVC that goes ridiculously brittle! The corners are always likely to cave rather than just say scuff in a strong wind as they have nothing behind them.

The rear bumper is much the same although is has a large and I mean very large block of foam behind it. Just like the front though the corners have no support, so what in any other cars would be a graze followed by a few choice words is actually a great big hole the size of which probably sunk the Titanic.

If you do fit a tow bar and are going to use it regularly it would be worth getting a metal plate to protect the bumper. RSAP bumpers fetch more than regular ones.

philoldsmobile

that would be about R reg?

does seem to be a common thing particular to that shape...

Andy

P/R era are the Mk 1.5 / 2. Everyone calls them Mk2 and since then everything has gone on from there.

In reality it was just a very generous facelift, a lot like the 3rd/4th Gen F-Bodies.
