I need help.

I read somewhere on the massive internet about tyres, particularly drag racing ones, where the at various points of the tyre is showed it's relative speed.

Now I wasn't smart and didn't bookmark it, however I took on most of what it was saying, but now I'm trying to explain it to someone else and even I'm not believing it.

The basic point was that, if you imagine the tyre had the markings of a clock, 12 being the top, 6 being the bottom, 3 being the forward direction of the car and tyre, and 9 being the rearward.

At '6 O'Clock', the tyre would be going at the same speed is a little faster due to it losing traction from the road surface,

At 12 it would be going effectively 0 or a little faster depending on the traction loss.

At 3 and 9 O'clock, it would be going relative to the vehicle speed...

this is what I can remember, but i'm not 100% sure.

Anyone know what I'm talking about or have a link to somewhere explaining i

In a word..... No....

Big Mouse

For drag tyres; at 6.00 the tyre would be stationary (for a split second at least),  at 12 it would be travelling slightly faster than the car speed due to the slingshot effect.

Look at a top fuel tyre to see the best example, they are all over the place  during a run
