What is fuelling this question is F1's partial move to Sky this year, its avaliable with any Sky+ HD package, the cheapest of which is £30.25 a Month.

So... Is Sky TV Actually worth it? does it really offer anything (other than all the F1) that is worth the extra money each month over & above Freeview...

Depends how much you're going to use it.

We have it for the Nascar. Most of the viewing is on 'terrestrial' channels through the Sky system.

The setup we have is the original sky system but with a larger 1m dish instead of the poxy mini dish. Then a 4 output LNB feeding 4 different receivers in the house. All running the free to air Astra satellite channels, which is most of the basic package you get from Sky apart from random stuff like, Dave, Challenge and that. This is the same as buying a Freesat box but cheaper as we just bought bog standard FTA receiver boxes.

The difference between this and Freeview is that Freeview includes some of those channels like Dave because with the Satellite they're tied to Sky and can't be released as FTA channels, over Freeview (through a digital aerial) they can be received.

To be honest though, as the F1 season doesn't bother me at all, I don't know what the schedule is for it. But it would get right on my tits if you could only watch it through Sky, especially after such a good job the Beeb did of it over the last couple of years.

Oh and add to that, the channels I don't get in my room on 'Freesat' I watch on TVCatchup.com anyway.

Hopefully that makes sense. It is late and I'm a bit cut, so I'll be amazed if this is readble!

I have had the full package with HD for some time now.  This month I have finally got round to taking movies off as we rarely watch them and usually download anything we do want to.  Saved me about a tenner a month.
If you are at home enough to watch your money's worth, then its well worth it.

vm has proved ideal for us.....
we have the xl package with various hd channels ,
catch up tv on i player,4 od ch5 all free, so much better than on a pc...

we have recorded a few movies in hd and they have been great,
currently hooked on big bang theory...

pic seems better than through a dish, the fibre optic box is just 50 yards from our house...

Roadkill

I've got Phone, Broadband and TV through SKY.

The money I saved getting my broadband and phone (inc. line rental) meant I effectively get the TV for free.

I have Freeview HD and use that.  for any programmes I cant get I either rent them at £1.79 per episode on AppleTV (which works out way cheaper than a sky sub) or even download them.
However have access to Sky Player on the tv so can watch some stuff over the net using my parents login from their sky account.
I rent movies on AppleTV, again cheaper than a sky sub.

Don't have Sky HD, but do have the basic package which is good for the Discovery channel, Bio channel, History channel and Sky Atlantic.

Barry, Virgin Media don't cover my area, as soon as they do it will be the big middle finger to Sky.

My Jail Br0ken Apple TV does everything else, but I will be glad to be able I see the F1 on Sky but hate the adverts

They aren't having any adverts during the race (that means ads just before the start and as soon a 1st place crosses the line)

Oh cool, I'm guessing that was part of the deal?

FUBAR

It must have been, and TBH its the only reason why i'm even considering it...

Big Mouse

I like the adverts, gives me a chance to wake myself up from all the boring predictable racing

Sky HD is ok, but not a lot of content on it at the moment that I'd watch - couldn't care less about 90% of sports so don't watch that - but more is coming on line slowly.

I've just dumped their phone and broadband in preference to BT Infinity3 and their weekend and friends package. Costs me about £18 per month more but I get an average 45mb/s download and 8-16 mb/s upload. Could never get past 2mb/s with Sky despite all their promises. Even now at peak time I'm still getting 28mb/s

Wouldn't touch Sky again with a extra long barge poll.

As said, I can't get Virgin where I am, which is why I have Sky
