Clutch noise..

Over the last couple of weeks or so I've been getting an intermittent squeal (a bit like a seized brake, pretty certain it's not the brakes) when I pull away in first.
The noise stops as soon as the clutch is fully engaged, so far only in the mornings but not when completely cold.
Other than the noise the clutch is working fine, no slippage, judder or unusual noise/rattle when depressed or fully engaged.

Any ideas?

Thrust Bearing? If you google that sort of noise, it seems to be quite common, that or the clutch plate material being glazed over which I find hard to believe.

And for the serious answer.

Sounds like the clutch material might have glazed.  Unless it's a real problem I'd live with it until you want/need to change it.

No.  Not until it completely destroys itself, anyway.

Although irritating, I've put thousands of miles on a car with a knackered thrust bearing . . . I'd just keep an eye ear on it for now.

If you think it could be glazing just drag the clutch several times to produce that lovely "just cooked clutch" smell . . . that'll take of any glazing i'd suggest.

Yeah, it's very intermittent, not done it since Sunday and before that it was the previous Tuesday.

See what happens..so long as it gets us to the Airport and Hastings and back I'm not bothered  

Still drives fine and still returns around 60mgp.

Impressive! I've been doing some CP style driving of late (2k gear changes, little brakes, etc) Best I've achieved has been 34.2mpg in a 1.8 petrol. It's a whole different ball game compared to these diesels!

To be fair that's the average over a week (1 tank) driving ~120 miles a day, most of it on the motorway at 70 mph

More like 45-50mpg around town...I guess.

Completely off topic, but my mustang just did 21mpg on the round trip to Poundon and back (plus a bit more).
