V8UK Go to the races...

You may remember a while ago I posted a link to an event that V8UK were running up near Peterborough. Well there next event is a day out at the races.

The very informal club, where all you need to join is a V8 is going up to Santa Pod on Saturday 29th June to the public RWYB, although it is open to the public anyone who turns up and says they're with V8UK will be ushered to their own pit area where everyone will meet up before descending upon the fire up road and pairing up.

Usual RWYB rules apply, but there was talk of allowing Bracket racing for the V8UK bunch.

If you're interested in coming ill forward on the message to the other forum as we have about 15 cars at the moment, the more the merrier though.

What a fantastic day at the Pod!

Arrived fairly early and pulled up next to my 'running partner' who was driving a '87 Firebird with a 305... sweet I thought, someone here who isn't packing an LS Engine or just an outright monster. Yeah, then he popped the hood! The '87 305 runs a Rochester Quadrajet on an Edlebrock manifold, he's also got a custom stainless set of 2" headers going into a 3" Flowmaster exhaust with a QTP Cutout for extra noise.

Anyway, paired up against him and was trying out my newly learnt technique of a burnout! After the dial-in day and seeing how much I was sucking off the line, it was either a case of going out and buying a set of ET radials or just getting mine a bit sticky. It helped a lot and I don't think I spun on any of my runs off the line. I was also manually shifting the auto box, which seems to also have helped with brining my ET down.

This still didn't help with me getting my arse handed to me by this Firebird though! He was running 15.6, while I was running 16.6's

Dave was also there with his new car... got it on Tuesday, ragged it on Saturday! He's got a LSD in the back, but the budget Nexens aren't doing him any favours as he was spinning off the line and was getting terrible 60ft times.

I'm off down the sarf coast with this lot on Sunday as they're all going to a racecar workshop called Insane Creations. There's a cruise swinging by from Aylesbury > Wycombe > Guildford > sarf coast somewhere.

Good to find a bunch of guys doing stuff like this!

These guys are staging round two on Saturday 14th September. I'm going to be there if the weathers good as I'm hoping to get my MSA licence signed off.
