Rip Off Merchants - RANT !

A friend of Jo's came round this morning and said that the service engine light was staying on on her Astra.
She asked how she could get it sorted ?
No problem I said I'll ring the local Vauxhall garage and ask how much a diagnostic check is ?

On hold for ten minutes and they tell me £42.30 which is refunadable if they have to do any work.
So I ring the owner back and she say's no problem can you sort it out for me because I don't want ripping off ?

A ring the dealer back to book the vehicle in and firstly they say " we'll need the car for a day because it's a big job !"
Didn't have the time to argue so I just said " That's taking the piss Mate , it takes about two minutes to plug a Tech 2 ( Vauxhall Diagnostic Reader ) in and look at the code.

So smart arse service reception male say's " Are well it may be an intermittant code so we may have to run the car for some time ? "
Well seeing as I'd already told him the light has been on constantly for the last two weeks that's unlikely.

Anyway because it's not my car and she needs it fixing , I booked it in for Wednesday.
Or tried to ?

What's the registration No. ?
No idea it's a 52 plate 1.6 16v Astra 5 door SXI in Star Silver with 35,000 on the clock and you last serviced it in October 4,000 miles ago.

Absolutley no problem with the sales side but I was a little surprised when the man at the parts counter said after I'd ordered a touch up paint stick " Can't tell you when it will be in , no way of telling , might be days or could be weeks ! "

Yup been there, plced an order for a load of fiat parts when building a race motor and they came in dribs and drabs untill the dealership changed to ford without telling me so i never got the full order completed. I had to argue with the now ford pasrts counter for my money back even though it was the same parts manager

I hate to be the one to break this, but from what you've told me in my MPG thread, there is an extremly high probability that your OBD2 plugin will work with her car.....

It might not, but it looks like all the EASE Diag plugin's are multiprotocol complient, so will work with any OBD2 vehicle

I have an OBD2 reader here at home and it clears the light as well....
