OK i know its not strictly a project, but it took me around 6 hours to do it today....

The task - service the gmc....basically Oil & Filter, Gearbox Filter & Oil, Replace Coolant, Replace Air filter, replace Fuel Filter....

Picked up the dexcool from USAutos this morning along with fuel filter so didn't start till around 11-12 ish...and finished about an hour ago i think but did stop fr lunch etc.

Air filter was nice and easy to do

Fuel filter - hmm not too bad - bit of petrol spilage, but all in the catch can so not too bad - whilst changing this i noticed there was one of the fuel relief pipe (i think its that - goes into a big black box thing) had popped off - so stuck that back on - all done

Oil & filter....well lets just say the oil was black.....VERY black:

It didn't look a nice colour either - very dark, and what is/was worrying me is the amount of crap stuck to the magent in the pan...lots of metal coloured gloop....

The pan:

A close up of the magent:

THe reason it soooo long to do the gearbox is the filter came out fine, but it left the rubber seal / grommit behind - and it was really wedged in there...managed to get the plastic bit off no problem, but it took me ages of gently prying and gentle persuasion with a pointed screwdriver and hammer(!) befre the metal cap of the seal came out.....

So after all that - is it any better......well yes, kind of (lol) - it certainly shifts a lot better now, very smooth gear changes and feels a bit better overal.

Still at some point got to drop the CAT off as me & dean think it is blocked as the van is very lacking on power and sounds very flat....i didn't have the right sized deep socket and was struggling to get at it properly only being on 2 short axle stands.....

A day well spent i think overall!!!

Yup indded - but some new fluid has to be better than no new fluid imo....
