yeah but what is it???????

Its a valley pan, it goues in the valley between the left and right banks of cylinders on the engine. It stops the oil etc coming out.

I thought that was where the intake manifold went!

on older engines your intake manifold sits higher so you have a valley pan

Ah, didn't know that.  A 'bit' like the air gap manifold then?

55starchief

its the black section under the manifold in this pic

Jamieg285

OK, so why worry about a ribbed one then?  You can hardly see it.

there is about 2" clearance between the valley pan and the intake mate, just the pic doesnt show that

Pod

I still wouldn't have thought you'd see much of it, especially once the other bits are on and the engine's in the car.

FUBAR

Dean's new manifold is a bit more 'gappy' than graeme's one above though so you will see it from the sides etc.

There is a much bigger gap between the valley pan and manifold on the Caddy - about 4" . . . Also, as mentioned, on the caddy lump it's much more visable . . . . . especially after I'd've finished rearranging the "bits" at the front of the block.
