A guy at work has blown his engine in his Rover 25

It's currently stuck in MK in a garage that want's to charge him £3000 for a new engine.

He has a mate 'tup north that will shove a recon one in for £1000.

soooo... dose anyone have any recommendations on how he can get it up there?

He thought I might know, after my experience in moving cars post hedge jump  but mine went to a wreckers...

Titsy

Join the AA... Push it down the road.... Call them out and get towed 'tup north...

Titsy

Or bring the engine to the car....

EDGE

i thinkif you have adequate aa cover they will tow it to a garage of your choice, if you only have basic cover they will take it to the nearest garage..

With the AA you need Roadside Relay . . .

How far T'up North, BTW ?

I got the Humber towed from Liverpool for £150, cash.

Preston.  So not to far from Liverpool.  Who did you use?

A guy + trailor.

I haven't the details but I'd suggest phoning around up there as it'll be cheaper then paying someone down here.

with the greatest of respect, i doubt the car is worth repairing...even the newest 25's aren't worth much more than £1500 - £2000 so unless its a mint, late model and very high spec, probably best to cut the losses and buy another..

Thats what i was thinking

Kenny

Yea, I did mention that to him but he say's its worth about £3k so spending £1k to fix it is better than buying a new one.

My response to him would have been its only worth what some one will pay and why would some one spend £3k on a manufacturer for which there are little to no spare parts

i'd struggle to think that ANY rover 25 (asside from the MG variant) is worth 3k

you also need to remember that after an engine change (and therefore loss of genuine mileage) the car is worth even less...

scrap it..

just to add my i'd say don't buy another 25, they are a piece of crap, instead bite the bullet, and spend a few pounds more, and buy a focus, even though it may be a year or two older than the same priced rover, its a far superior car in absolutely every way..

Only ever had two things go wrong with my focus... The first was driver error; and the second was a steering component that cost £30 including labour to fix...

philoldsmobile

yeah, they are great cars, one reason they hold value so much better than most other cars in their class..

even an early high mile focus is still worth nearly £2000, where a similar Astra is £700 to £1000, and pug 306 is about £600

my brothers father in law just recently bought a Y reg Focus TD DI with 120,000 miles on the clock, and slightly tatty for 2 grand.. (and that was by far and away the cheapest we could find that wasn't totaly trashed) ya know? damned thing still drives like new, a little TLC and its near immaculate now!

Big Mouse

A Rover 25 with a blown engine worth 3K

and he wants to throw another grand at it???

Would I be right in thinking that he's not allowed metal eating implements or unsupervised visitors where he lives?

I think you hit it on the nail there....

Motorama

Got a 2000 W reg Rover 25 in the garage at the minute with a shagged motor.
Pricing it all up i would say its written it off!

Roadkill

I've got an Escort available at a fraction of the cost . . . . .
