Struck gold with my choice of MOT station today. Just over the road from work, and the main tester is an yank owner
A few things that could have been failures were just advisories and I walked away with the ticket

Bad luck?  After the test the 'assistant' parked the car out the front and put on the parking brake - ping - the cable snapped.
Thankfully, it could have happened on the test, but didn't so I got my pass anyway.

Just got to get another cable now.

I tried, but they argued that it failed due to normal operation, not misuse, abuse or accident.

They did offer to fit the new cable though.

You guys must have some serious rust issues over there. I've never in my 40 years had to replace an E-brake cable!!!

The Rear D/Side section of my '58's was long since snapped when I got her . . . That didn't look like rust though . .

Jamieg285

No it wasn't rusted. The broken end looked very clean.  It was the front end that broke, inside the cabin, so it's not likely to be weather related.

We dont have that much salt over here, places in the USA and Canada still have salt on the roads in the summer due to the amouunt dropped over winter

Mostly its the arches on cars that get the dreaded tin worm but this is usualy caused by mud getting under them and people not removing it when washing the car. The result is a constant damp mess which rots the arch from inside out
