dont forget knipex, some of the best cutters and pliers are made by that company. to give you some idea the wholesaler next to me at work charghes £9 for a pair of large side cutters

I've paid out a small fortune in snap on tools that i brought during my apprentice years . over the years i've lost a small fortune too so whenever i lose a tool i replace it with the draper expert range

Nowt wrong with draper

Cunning Plan

tools are tools.. all do the same thing, snapon has built up a good brand snobbery around its tools.. basically saying if you arent using snapon you dont know what your doing..

I use anything thats around..  Doesnt bother me if its cheap or expensive.  The only thing Ive found a difference with is the ratchet spanners - borrowed some snapon ones and they are good to work with, the cheaper ones are bulkier and slip more..

Simple fact cheap tools dont last so you buy them more often so its false economy. The pro stuff might be more expensive but it lasts,is guaranteed and gets replaced FOC.

Fact, i had a set of snapon screwdrivers. They cost me £50 15 years ago, last year i broke one and it was replaced FOC not a bad investment. I forget how many cheap draper screwdrivers i have broke tips and handles of

Both MAC and Snapon spaners dont flex in the open end section, cheap spanners open up and slip on the nut rounding the corners off along with your knuckles

I have to agree, having done Cheap tools for years, and getting fed up with having to replace broken ones, I know look for better quality.

I don't think Snap On/Mac are worth the money for non-proffesional use, but there are plenty of decent, middle ground options, some of which also offer a lifetime guarentee.

if you buy off the promotional flyers you can get some very good deals. I have a MAC flyer here listing a 4 pc Slip Joint plier set complete with zip case for £25+VAT and guaranteed for life there is also a 10 piece long reach set complete with zip case lifetime guarantee for £69+VAT making each piece £8.10 which is about the same as a set of knipex or CK etc

EDGE

i quite like the halfords pro range, same lifetime guarantee and they're pretty tough, i dont think ive ever broken one.... yet....

Yeah thats basically re branded Signet stuff. Main reason i buy MAC and snapon is they come to me so i dont have to drive any place. We used to have an independent guy come around with all the signet stuff and thats what 50% of mine is the other 50% is split between Beta,Snapon and Mac. I mainly buy the specialist stuff now which a lot of the other tool manufacturers dont make

That's a fair point, although I've never seen any, or thought to look on their websites because I've not been looking for pro tools.

Jamieg285

+1 on the Halfords Pro stuff.  I've got a small collection of sockets and spanners from them now, and will likely add to the collection too.

ditto, cant say the same for snap on, i've broken a few things, and the warranty is only good as long as you can find a dealer....advantage halfords, there is ALWAYS a halfords near by..
