I've had a row over the last week with Mercedes over the agreed valuation on the ML and their offer of 'helping' me to get rid of it and gracefully offering to sell me another very expensive merc in its place, to which I said no.

'But the warranty runs out at the end of the month' they cried 'what if something goes wrong with it, you'd have to pay'

I've already taken a massive hit on the ML ( a staggering 72% depreciation in 33 months!!!) so I thouht I'd just run it into the ground over the next 12 months, hand whats left back to them and then go and but a low milegae used saloon for work.

On Monday evening, driving home up the A5, I could hear what sounded like the turbo wheezing; 'that sounds odd' I thought @ I'll take it in to MB on the way home'

Long story short, they replaced both cats as they were blocked; it also looks like the turbo needs replacing as well as it was fighting against the blockage. While it was in they noticed excessive wear in the ball joints so they've been replaced too.

All under the warranty that runs out in a few days time.

Well that's a bit of luck!!!

And fair play to them for being honest and pointing out the other things...

72% depreciation...  Ouch!!!!

Don't suppose you'd care to add your running costs of that beast to my thread?

before anyone points out anything about European cars, its worth remembering the ML is a yank!

exactly what I thought.

I have to be fair to MB, their warranty is generally top notch. A few years back (when business was better ) I had an S class for 3-4 years as I used to do a lot of mileage and wnated some comfort; it started burning a bit of oil so they checked it out. It turns out it was the valve stem oil seals leaking so they needed replacing. But its done 98,000 miles so I thought I'd be paying for it as the warranty was up. No. They said their oil seals should never leak regardless of whether its under warranty!!

What thread?
