Haven't used the M6 to or from Manchester for a couple of years, the toll is fine but after that it gets stuffed.
Went up to Manchester Friday night, as usual M1 up to junction 29, through Chesterfield & over the hills to Stockport.
Trouble is they are now widening the M1 to four lanes between 23 & 26 ( I think ) just like the Luton Watford stretch
It was stop/start for nearly two hours through the roadworks giving us a journey time of just over six hours
So I thought this evening we'd give the good old M6 a chance
2 hours & 25 minutes door to door at a steady ( ish ) 75mph

Handily I've found that since they opened the M6 toll roads all the saps go down there and pay freeing up the normal M6 for me to travel down also sans congestion.

I did go through the M6 toll once and was less than impressed to find it was a much longer friggin route...

(I refuse to use it as I already pay road tax and massive fuel duty so fail to see why I should then have to pay again to use a damn road ).
