The Viper ACR ( American Club Racer ) has just smoked around the Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 22.4 seconds
The new ZR1 "super " Corvette managed a blistering 7 minutes and 26.4 seconds a whole 4 seconds slower

Hmmm, 4 seconds or not I know which one I'd prefer.

The vette was the production model right down to the same tyres, I'd be interested to see what the viper spec was

IMHO the viper sounds bloody awful; if thats how noisy the production model cabin is then they've got something badly wrong. It's bottoming out at speed all the time which makes me think its lowered a bit more than stock (unless any viper owners want to admit to theirs doing the same?) which won't be doing it any good. And I'd also bet a sizeable amount that he didn't have standard road tyres fitted unless they've taught it to handle a lot better than it did before

Hitting the rev limiter, fluffing gear changes - 1st time out for the pilot??

I'm not a fan of the ZR1 looks, the plastic hood window so that you can see the plastic engine cover is naff

The Viper looks very aggressive even with the stewpeed rear wing, add in that the Vette costs $100k plus and the $70k Viper has my money

Thats what spray paint is for I agree that was a pretty stupid/pointless idea to come up with but i just prefer the styling overall to that of the viper; everytime I see one I just think it looks like something heavy has fallen across the middle of it and don't even start me on the grill area at the front

Some clever person Geek has fused the two videos together

the viper has always left me cold, its a very brutal thing, and rather phallocentric looking..

the corvette is better, but neither has the delicate class and quality of a ferrari or maserati

Both are faster, though.

And a fraction of the price.

I liked the original Viper.

Red, no roof, 3 spokes.  No need to mess with it imho.

Not so keen on the styling of the new ones and the ACR looks like a bad day at Halfords...

However...

You can't deny it's an impressive bit of kit.
For all the alledged poise of a Ferrari (I remain unconvinced that a car that revs so high and needs so much revs to get off the line at all can ever be refined) and the high price tag, the Viper does it for a fraction of the price.  Getting around that track that fast is no mean feat.

Not impressed with the banging noise (as it clouts the ground?) though, although the tyres don't sound as tortured as they did on the Vette...

I like it actually, looks mean
It's the time that we kill that keeps us alive...

HardRockCamaro

I'm largely put off by the bonnet, single stripe, lack of sideskirts (to level with the front skirt) and the off-the-shelf playstation wing.

and dont do anything else as well.....

out and out speed is becoming less and less relevant.. quality speaks now..

i used to think that untill i had a passenger ride in a 550 maranello (front engine V12)

sooooooooooooooooo smooth, and never sounds stressed, the power just comes and comes and comes, and a sound that makes the hairs on your neck stand up. its a totally different experience to a raw, gruff, grunty yank V8

the north star is kinda like a half way house, some of the smoothness upper end surge and revs of a ferrari, but some of the low end power of the tradtonal V8's. its the ability to rev so sweetly that makes the north star such a fabulous engine, the old small block (and to a lesser extent the LS1) get quite harsh in the upper rev range by comparison.

not a fan of the ferrari V8's though, they are just too buzzy...gimmie the V12 every time.

The ACR was a stock viper run by the SRT team from the states and with no team back up....

He did hit the Rev limiter a few times on the run..

Just got back from the ring (4 day trip) and almost all cars whatever they are bottomed out especially on the Carousel......
