I am thinking of buying something, but i don't know what.

Yank? German (merc/BMW)? anything.

The only stipulation is it has to be original, has to be road legal and around £1k. I know i am not going to get a show piece for this.... But anyone know of anything?

EDGE

i know some one whos selling a nice e30 shape bmw 320...

black i think it is, looked nice, i rekon youd have it for under £400

Fieldy

You see, now that would be perfect Edge. You know me so well!

Can you find out for me? I have been looking at E30's now for a while, especially black (any colour except red actually). for that price, I'd have enough to fix any work needed.

EDGE

i rekon you'd walk away with it if you waved £400 under his nose...

EDGE

oh ffs...

he sold it for £200 !!!!!!!

cheers dude.... when we gonna meet for Nandos?!

EDGE

soon i hope... everyone needs to eat !

philoldsmobile

hmmm.. nandos...

for an interesting £1k car, i'd look for.. (and dont shoot me)

Alfa Romeo 145 - especialy the 1.7 boxer (can be had a lot cheaper, but don't, for the love of god DON'T)
Mercedes 190E (especially the 2.6)
Citroen CX (pointlessly cool)
Fiat Coupe (avoid the turbo for that sort of money - it will be a ropey one - the 20v N/A is still very good)
Opel Manta or Monza
Vauxhall Calibra
Saab 900 (old shape - mid 80's)

i wouldn't actually recommend the alfa - you will know if they are your type of car or not, they need a lot of looking after, and you can on occasion need VERY deep pockets to run one compared to other cars in the class, but there is 100 years of history, a huge following and oddly, the dubious title of being the car most booked by speed cameras in the UK per registered owner!

for you Alan, the Merc would be my pick - cool (especially in black or white) very solid, and definitely not going to go down in value.

EDGE

I'd be with you on the 190e. A 2.3 or 2.6 would be very cool

Fieldy

I have already phoned a few people regarding 190e's, I love em....

Good list phil, cheers...

Gator

youll get a half decent 3rd gen for a grand

dont buy an alpha ffs that would just be stupid

Motorama

Pick up a copy of Classic Car Weekly. There's a section for cars under £1000 in it, always some interesting stuff.

oh.....dear.....god!

the more i think about it the more the 190E sounds ideal. you should be able to get classic insurance on one by now, too..

Vauxhall Calibra

Again you'll be lucky to find one that hasn't been

philoldsmobile

sadly so. a decent one though, isn't likely to depreciate, and is a damned good car.

a decent original one is probably already well over budget though
