I've just been making a new snow shovel because the plastic one broke and unsurprisingly nowhere has any in stock

Not quite, I took an old hand coal shovel and flattened it out with a big hammer, then drilled holes and screwed it to the old show shovel shaft.
Oh and gave it a quick spray coat of black Hammerite
