Guys, one of my neighbours has got a 2001 Alfa 156 t-spark Veloce for sale. Im thinking about buying it for a cheap run around. He wants $1800 for it which seem like a good price to me.
Can anyone (phil! lol) give me a run down on what to look out for etc

Salt on roads + Italian car = What were you thinking?

The neighbour thats selling the car builds rods at home so I borrow his

I just wanna buy a cheap run around which has some comfort etc as cheap yank motors are RUBBISH. something I can put all the dirty small stuff in and not worry. I like my truck clean thanks LOL!!

I'll swap you some dirt and grime, my truck doesn't get dirty enough

I need something I an put the dogs in. us two and some 'Groceries'
Im not prepared to put my dogs in the back of a truck, a lot of people do over here but not me. So an estate is the way to go I think.

I have 2 dogs, and the double cab pickup, but mine has the roof on the back, awesome it is

Good luck with the purchase, I'm sure when he gets on here he will be a wealth of knowledge

Ive got an 2008 F350 SD with truck back but its too cold in there for the dogs. With an avergae temp of 0c for 5 months of the year its not fair.

Total fair point, didn't think of that

An estate is the only way to go then

ok, bit late now, but yes, the 4 cylinder twin spark engine needs frequent cam belt changes - every 3 years of 36,000 miles, other than that, they aren't bad for reliability if looked after, regular servicing and a full service history is utterly essential.

Alfa are seen as specialist cars, so many have been looked after, but the abused ones are terrible. dont buy anything with an un known past (i made that mistake) but a well looked after car will be fine.

Ignore the rust horror stories - up to a point. the 156 was part  galvanized, so you will never see a rusty one, but there are some parts underneath that aren't so it needs to be checked. 166's (what i have) are fully galvanized, so rust (past scabby stone chips) is pretty much non existent.
