Weeeell - Back on topic - the alternator was fitted to the Jepp at the weekend.

Problem sorted, she's now charging again.  £20 well spent.

The same can be said about Land Rover Discovery's and Range Rovers.

I suspect they do get more off-roading use in the USA although again, if you're really into off-roading you don't buy a luxury SUV like a Grand Cherokee or Range Rover even though both can raise themselves up about 3 or 4 inches, they're just too big and heavy.
It's actually quite difficult here to find somewhere you can go off-road unless it's a custom built place (which doesn't interest me) whereas in the US you can go to all sorts of national parks and trails where you need to off-road to experience it (which does interest me).
