New Red Dwarf !

2nd ep better than the first. A couple of chuckles worth at least. The joke about dvds being replaced by video because no-one could be bothered to put dvds back in their cases and videos being too big to lose made me laugh.

Just watched the 2nd & 3rd episodes...

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear...

1/2 the 2nd episode was a god damn merchandising advert, the other 1/2 was a fukin episode of Corrie !!! WTF is going on! & What the Fk was a mention of the damn TV channel doing in there!!! (kid says it on the bus)

They could have done the "Back to Earth" storyline iN So many better ways than that abortion of a "story" that they came up with.  Doug Naylor should be ashamed, simple as that.

Its such a shame, but its just Garbage.
They managed to make the ship (the bits it was even in) look nothing like it used to, most of it was CG'd as opposed to actual sets which unless you spend a HUGE amount of money on looks utterly crap.
Whoever came up with the idea of "Carbug" needs shooting, especially using a Smartcar!!
Its a repeated storyline, which only had the most tenuous links to something that was never mentioned in the actual dispair squid episode (or since)

Other issues:
RD with No Holly
So many things completely ignored from previous series for convinience
So obviously done on the cheap to make money
Crap, cheap CG
Too much CG
Carbug!! No No No (and thats ignoring the fact that a Smartcar only has 2 seats)
Coronation street!!!!  
No Live audiences made the show soulless (probably done to keep the "storyline" secret so people didn't pan it before it came out)

And most importantly, apart from a couple of good moments (across all 3 parts)....     IT WASN'T FUNNY


Anything where they do this kind of storyline where all of a sudden the cast wake up & "Oh its all just a dream..." is a cheapshot cop-out just to make money.  I believe they ended the Sopranos (all x no. of series of it) with someone waking up "Oh it was just a dream" & IIRC Dallas did something similar too???

I should have applied my Blues Brothers 2000 Rule to this and never watched it as its 1 1/2 Hrs of my life that i'll never get back. this ranks the lowest of the low, right underneath the last 2/3rds of Series 8.

Sooooo......you don't like Coronation Street then...?

Got to admit that while there were 1 or 2 funny bits across the 3 eps, some was more clever than funny (or the delivery perhaps was bad so it just didn't SOUND funny). I liked the Bladerunner stuff but again, it just didn't come across as funny. And the pacing of it just seemed really amateurish. Back to the dvds...!

I kinda think red dwarf was an 'of its time' kinda thing - the old series was excellent, very funny, but part of the reason it was so good was it was in some ways kinda crappy (dodgy FX etc) as 'new red dwarf' showed, sometimes newer and better isn't newer and better at all.
