Right guys, with all the work on the Mustang we're now looking at cracking on with some on the Camaro.

The inlet manifold over the last year has corroded badly, not sure if it's just the weather and dampness or the coating on it has gone. Either way this is what we have, and we're looking for suggestions re paint, prep and protection for the future...

Now this was going to just be about the manifold, but Dave wanted to see if we could get the air filter off to get a better look underneath when noticed this poke out when lifting the lid...

Then this...

Full on mouse nest with mouse shit everywhere! Suppose that's what to expect when you lay the car up over winter in a barn. The Mouse was long gone btw, probably suffered the trip home from storage and jumped ship!

ianjpage

wow not what you expect in the air filter!!!

Squeaky clean!!

How did it even get in there?
1968 VW T2 Bay Bus (currently being restored and upgraded)
1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ (modern classic daily driver)

Roadkill

That's kinda cool !

Is the manifold Cast Iron or Ally - ie. Stock or aftermarket ?

It looks stock but the corrosion is what I'd expect what an ally manifold.

FYI - I'd check your hoses - that white scum can be the result of water / damp on there.

Any engine enamel will do the trick.  That said it's a low-heat area so most paints would work to a degree . . . .

If it's Iron - take it off and shot-blast it and paint immediately - that'll give you the best chance.

If it's Ally avoid blasting.  Although if done carefully it'll be O.K.  Protect all gasket surfaces and threads !!

I'll get a magnet on it tonight and see what material it actually is, as you say though, looks most like ally corrosion and not rust from iron.

It should be a stock 305tbi, the only receipts that come close to the engine was the tranny rebuild.

On a par with Chris'...

A mouse living in an engine bay, that's a bit of a Danger Mouse.. *chortles*
