On your Mac go to:

Applications - Utilities -> Network Utility

Go to the "Ping" tab.

Enter http://www.mkb.cc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">www.mkb.cc in the box and press "Ping".

It should give you something like this:

Ping has started...

PING mkb.cc (208.109.181.72): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 208.109.181.72: icmp_seq=0 ttl=50 time=148.460 ms
64 bytes from 208.109.181.72: icmp_seq=1 ttl=50 time=148.039 ms

If it doesn't enter 208.109.181.72 into the box and press "Ping" and see if that gives you a result like the above.

If you can't "ping" the site by name but can by IP address it means your router isn't resolving DNS (or your Mac isn't being given a DNS server address as part of its DHCP request).  Call Virgin if you've already tried restarting it.

If neither ping works then there is a routing problem most likely further upstream.  This is unlikely if your neighbours router can get to the site though.

To check this go to the "Traceroute" tab and enter in http://www.mkb.cc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">www.mkb.cc and press "Trace"

You should get something like this:

Traceroute has started...

traceroute to mkb.cc (208.109.181.72), 64 hops max, 72 byte packets
1  router (192.168.2.1)  3.723 ms  0.930 ms  0.879 ms
2  * * *
3  * * *
4  10.1.2.158 (10.1.2.158)  17.337 ms  14.751 ms  13.693 ms
5  206.165.73.37 (206.165.73.37)  180.916 ms  195.186 ms  15.506 ms
6  64.210.13.110 (64.210.13.110)  135.720 ms  135.742 ms  135.649 ms
7  ip-216-69-188-45.ip.secureserver.net (216.69.188.45)  145.332 ms  145.662 ms  145.068 ms
8  ip-216-69-188-45.ip.secureserver.net (216.69.188.45)  145.077 ms  145.582 ms  145.457 ms
9  p3slh089.shr.phx3.secureserver.net (208.109.181.72)  145.832 ms  146.221 ms  145.931 ms
10  p3slh089.shr.phx3.secureserver.net (208.109.181.72)  145.397 ms  145.232 ms  145.202 ms

This show every "hop" along the way between you and the mkb site.

If all you get is the * * *  stuff at some point then the routing is broken at that point.  I get a couple at first because the first 2 hops must've been set by my SP to not respond to this, but the important thing is I eventually end up at the  same IP address that the Ping test above revealed instead of it ending up in *** at some point forever.

If you do eventually just keep getting *** then Virgin or somewhere on the internet there is a routing problem.  This would manifest itself as a problem getting to some sites but not others.  You can report this to Virgin.

its been my personal email account for 10 yrs...
with no issues in that time,

In February 2011, AOL purchased The Huffington Post for $315 million,
Shortly after the acquisition was announced,
Huffingtonpost.com co-founder Arianna Huffington  will oversee the development of all editorial content from both companies including news, technology, music and local media websites.

No prob.

It was likely one of the 2 issues above which would have been resolved eventually by your isp as several people would probably have complained.
