Woah, Art... That articles from 2010!!

As it happens, you can more often than not see it at least once a week when it does a fly-by at night.

If you go outside and have a perfect clear night, spend about 10-15 minutes looking at the stars. Apart from the obvious planes that flash, look for faint moving lights, in a straight line. These are a mixture of satellites and space junk floating around, reflecting off the sun.

this week is going to be a great time to view the iss....due to its postion and the amount of light bouncing off of it...

21.35 tonite.. clear skys and the iss came over the horizon over our house and disappeared into the eastern sky,
gradually fading as it lost the sunlight...
it was extremely bright an gone in around 6 mins...

Gotta be up early for that one, looking at a 1-2am for your best chance of seeing any. Add to that, its pretty low in the sky, you'll want to be out in the sticks to see it.

From memory the July-August showers I found best when I was younger.  Good rate, too.

That'll be the Persieds, they're always best for seeing them. I think last year it was a bit cloudy at the peak. Can't really remember. Haven't seen a good one since I was about 10 or so, used to go out in the garden and watch till we either got bored or cold.

Still waiting to get some decent photos of them.

Yeah, remember looking out my bedroom window at 4am when I was <thinks> about . . err . . 15 ? . . and seeing them clearly.

Used to sit in the back garden too when I was younger.

When I built the conservatory last year part of the reason I opted for a glass roof (over polycarb) was so I could sit out there and see the sky clearly.

Works a treat - especially as I've cut the tree down over the back - got good visability, albeit with some light pollution (but minimal considering where I am).
