This is crazy but fascinating!

A British team is developing a car that will be capable of reaching 1,000mph (1,610km/h). Powered by a rocket bolted to a Eurofighter-Typhoon jet engine, the Bloodhound SSC (SuperSonic Car) vehicle will mount an assault on the land speed record. The vehicle will be run on Hakskeen Pan in Northern Cape, South Africa, in 2013 and 2014.

Its an awesome project, bumped into it at various motorsport events and the mock up car is truly awesome.

I think the process starts with an F1 engine, then the jet engine with afterburners kick in, then just for that looney barking mad bit, add a rocket! Get in there!

Big Mouse

Hmmm, rockets and cars, sounds like a recipe for a spectacular crash

The Cosworth F1 engine provides no forward momentum. All propoltion is form thrust generated by the jet turbine and rocket motor, the 2.4L 750hp Cosworth V8 is there to provide auxiliary power and to pump oxidiser to the rocket motor...
