no turkey in our gaff this xmas...

Although i do cook a particularly good turkey n chickens
steam roasted in a sealed steel casserole dish,
on a vegetable trivet with a half bottle of white wine ,
with herb butter under the skin...

This xmas..
im doing a 10lb joint of pulled pork ,cost £12
cooked in a slow cooker for 5hrs on xmas eve,
with a cajun rub and some scrumpy cider under it
the skin will be grilled to make some crunchy crackling...

then i will shread it all and return to the slow cooker with the juices and some herb butter through it,
it will be served in a yorkshire pudding with all the trimmings pigs n stuffing in bacon, sprouts, parsnips, etc
roasties par boiled the day before and stored dry in the fridge then deep fat cooked to brown,

all of this time saved will give me and the family[the kids are in their 20's]
time to go to the local in the morning for a festive tipple...
all in all it will turn out better than most turkeys people are planning to ruin,
and will cost half as much,

must admit im lookin forward to it ....

Sounds lovely we don't have turkey either, we've decided to have an indoor picnic on Christams day, so we are having cheeses, breads, cured meats, home made sausage rolls & pork pies, chilli jams, pickles etc, make it more fun
