V8UK has been invited by Topcats Racing to be the first club to come along to their Saturday Club day at their Aylesbury HQ on Westcott business park.

Topcats Racing are a Britcar winning team who specialise in servicing TVRs Marcos and many other exotica. Their speciality is seemingly putting many of the Generals LS power plants in TVRs. This along with carrying out servicing, building and maintenance on many rare pieces of kit makes their workshop a very interesting tour.

The Saturday Club is an opportunity for clubs to invite all their members to an open house day and for the morning the engineers at Topcats will set aside two on their ramps and on a first come first served basis, help people out with any jobs that they would like doing as well as giving the car an overall health check. The cost of this? Absolutely free! Included in this, a bacon butty on arrival.

We're planning on having some really nice cars there along with meet some new people, so if you're free on the 11th and looking for a free event to go to, with a free bacon butty and opportunity to use a lift, head on over.

Not all cars have to be V8s and it is open to absolutely everyone.

I'm tempted by this.  As it's local I'd want to bring the Caddy.  Just need to check if I'm looking after the little'un that day cos if I am, it'll be the Mondeo.

Got a few quite nice cars lined up for this, a previous V8UK Feature car, that being Colin Theobald's 1969 Camaro SS.

Chas Chivers should be bringing along his Supercharged Ford Cortina, this being of Ron Haslett fame competed in Street Eliminator, but now competes in the class of Supercharged Outlaws.

What a fantastic day this was!

The morning started looking a little miserable and wet but soon picked up, and before 9am we had a healthy turn up of cars.

First at the Topcats Racing HQ were myself and James in his HSV Monaro, which is a LS2 powered Vauxhall but boy does it shift. Next up on arrival was V8UK friend Chas Chivers towing his Supercharged Outlaw Ford Cortina Estate. This monster turns 9 second 1/4 mile times while looking awesome, oh and it's street legal (mufflers, number plates etc). Not long after, Santa Pod commentator and V8UK Feature car owner Colin Theobald turned up in Bruce, his 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS packing a 454 BBC.

The car park was soon filling up, in equal numbers of V8s and non V8s but still a great array of cars. Apart from having a great looking workshop, Topcats were also offering anyone who wanted it, ramp time to get their car up and check out whats what from underneath. This proved really useful for some who had a few loose under trays, a couple of unseen leaks and one person who discovered some concerning inside tyre wear.

I finally got to get the Camaro up on the lift myself to see what was what and was pretty surprised at just how good the underside actually is. The underside could probably do with a coat of waxoil but overall, apart from some bits of surface rust on the steering linkages, the floor pans, the sub frames were all in great condition. I got one thing point out which was I had a HT lead shorting out on the exhaust manifold. A slight adjustment to the routing and it should be cured.

One great thing about the morning is everyone was really mixing and willing to show off their cars. There was an RV8 Ginetta which was a really interesting little British sports car. A chap in a Aston Martin V8 Vantage was showing several round, letting people take it in turns sitting in it and even giving it a cheeky rev.

Topcats are aiming to run around 6 of these next year, but as yet no dates are confirmed due to their racing schedule, add to this they have been put forward for a Pistonheads Sunday Service which should be a cracking day.

It all came to an end around 2pm which gave me and several friends a great chance to head off back to Aylesbury and have a little cruise together.

Was a cracking day, shame you couldn't make it Dean. Their workshop is pretty outstanding and something I forgot to mention was the store room of dreams! This store room had 4 LS7 7.0 litre blocks, all the Pistons, rods cams etc to make them complete engines. Several 6 speed boxes, 4 or 5 complete diffs with various ring and pinion ratios. Another unknown V8 block and just tonnes of bits, all neatly laid out on each shelf.

Will be emailing them for a price on doing some work on my car. I said about whether they'd be able to set up a 10 bolt and they're very confident it'll be no sweat to them. Considering they do that sort of stuff and more at a race track, they should be perfectly able to do it in their shop.
