What the hells a Group 4 mower?

Group 4 is for wheel driven lawn tractors. They are similar mechanically to Group 3 with the obvious difference that they have a bonnet over a front mounted engine. As with group 2 and 3 these require a lot of preparation but can be as fast as Group 3s with a potential for 40-50 mph.

This is a relatively new development group with many promising ideas being tried and tested on the track. A group suited to those that may enjoy race preparation as much as they do racing or that have an opportunity for a friend or family member to help and get involved.

Currently all Group 4 mowers must be "Homologated"; a process to determine eligibility and suitability for inclusion in the Group, details available in the BLMRA Handbook.

Some of the most popular mowers in Group 4 come from the following manufacturers:

Westwood
Lazer
Honda
Wheel Horse / Toro
John Deere
Mountfield
Lawnflite
Murray
Hayter
Countax
Rally
AYP (American Yard Products)
Ariens

Definition
A Group 4 mower is a lawn tractor with chassis designed for 18hp, which has been designed to cut grass for domestic purposes. It will have the engine situated in front of the operator, covered by an obvious bonnet. A rotary blade cutting deck will be suspended under the chassis between the front and rear wheels. The original tyre sizes will have an obvious size difference front to rear offering a profile of a 'baby' agricultural tractor.

Anyone preparing a new Group 4 mower must contact the race committee.

Do not assume that your type of machine is homologated even if you think you have seen something similar racing

just like the one ian has so not only does it need to be homologated its probably gonna need an engine swap iv its a twin which guessing at the HP i would say almost definatley

Hmmmm likewise not sure cos of the cost - lawnmower racing is within the budget, whereas drag racing it would cost money - modifications to make it safe and speedy-er than lawm racing ...... have to see what is it in afore we go to far..........

(also i MAY be able to get me hands on another engine FOC anyhow hehehe)

Whats wrong with it? also its still a class 4 but its do able

ianjpage

Well AFAIK nothing as such - it just needs a full service and check that it runs (will try and stick a battery and some fuel in over the w/end and see if it fires) - i was given it for some reason i cant member now lol!

55starchief

its probably worth a couple of hundred with a clean up mate, seems wrong to wreck it if its working. If the mowing deck was shot then thats a different matter

TBH i think the deck could be the reason i came into it - when i tried moving it earier (its got a raise/lower) it was well solid!

And TBH i cannot be bothered with flogging it - i wanna have some fun and enjoy it!!
