Wuss.

It's for reference mainly.

As the Caddy has fixed rear skirts (and fitting Radials under is hard work) I'm wondering what sort of profile I need to make them fit under . . . .

Yup slicks are normally cross ply. infact you can set a car up on radials road tyres and swap to cross ply slicks without the need to change suspension settings. Our westfield ran crossply slicks and handled like a dream on the track

Alas, from experience, cross-plys handle like $hit on the road.

Any hole, any dip, any crack - they'll find their way into them.

Bloody cheap, though . . . .

All down to suspension setup, 2 totally different animals mate, with slicks on the westfield it could out lap a 300hp cossie powered westfield on radials

On the road it is not.

It's simply their thin profile that makes them treacherous !

I had Cross-plys on the '57 Hawk as they were supposed to have and changed the fronts (temporarily) for radials for an MoT and (although steering was heavier) it drove MUCH better.

thats down to the width mate not the tyre, the westfield had the same width crossplys as it had radials 205's and what ever the slick cross plys were

I've had cross-plys on a couple of cars.

I've found the handling to be really good IF you're on a smooth road.

The second they see a split in the tarmac they're off.

Also they seem to pick up "tram lines" on the motorway much easier.

The tyres on the Hawk I had were used in all weathers and never let me down - unfortunately I don't think our roads are good enough for cross-plys.

At £220 start they're a little on the steep side - considering I sold my red-bands for £100.
