My mates got a 2.0 Auto R-reg neon done 49k miles Moted and Taxed.
My first question is is it worth £700
And second are they any good, MPG etc

Both edge and podette have and have had neons, i think edge might still have some parts left from when his was written off

Rob

Looking at a couple of them myself.....so I phoned a friend as well who's Brother in law bought one recently.....Woh...That almost got a bit confusing....!

Anyway...He as yet has very little to complain about....bought his with almost 100k on the clock and he drives regularly down to Devon.  Never missed a beat.....One thing he did advise was not to get metallic paint if possible as it does tend to go a bit flat 'n flaky.....

The ones I've got my eye on range from about £600-£1200......for an R-reg, so I guess he's not far out.

One thing to note is that shotly after in 99 I think it was, they recieved a facelift with new front end and leather interior so sometimes worth looking out for slightly newer model.

Spares are ten a penny as loads are being broken for spares on ebay.

edge had no issues with his, asside from a poor connection in the dash, and a bad earth on the tail light, both easily sorted in 30 mins on the driveway of the vendor before it was driven home..

other than that, dont expect mondeo levels of refinment or build quality, but they are a decent runabout..

i'd say £700 is fair.

Be warned though, dont open the boot when philo is around as he can fit into it

yah, good car for potholing in, from the boot to the front footwell without opening any doors

I see they are quite cheap on Ebay i like the face lift model better but this is fully optioned with leather etc and is low milage, Hes also got a Rover coupe but with a CRX engine and left hand drive for £500 but not sure about a rover.

Looking for A 'maybe' replacement for my girlfreinds car, wonder if she'll like A neon?

HardRockCamaro

I think an R reg 2L car with toys for £700 is a good deal.

BUT, there was one year that they changed a load of stuff, which might make finding part harder.  Think it might have been 98...

Edge would know more.

EDGE

yup 98 was an odd year, i think a lot of those were an 1800 engine... very odd...

as far as the crs go, i wouldnt hesitate to buy another one, id buy a manual but thats only because ive seen issues with the autos recently.  `lovely little cars to drive too,

hell yeah...

oddly my dad used to say 'never want an auto' he had a problem though, he'd always wanted a jaguar. Upon buying a jaguar some years later, it had been less than a week before saying 'ok i was wrong, auto for teh win!!!1111)

brother used to say 'never want an auto' upon his family expanding, and the need for a larger diesel estate car, he bought a 98 mercedes E300 turbodiesel, of course its an auto... shock horror, he's now a convert, auto is just so much easier to deal with on a day to day basis..

traffic moves slower now than it did 20 years ago, and the opportunity to have some fun beind the wheel is small on the road, so the lower day to day stress levels an auto provides far outweigh the one day per year you are hooning down a B road..
