Missed a new world record yesterday at Rockingham ?

The longest driving line of MR2's in the world as they drove round the track - over 400

Here they were starting to line up in colour rows :

Never found out how many there were by the end of the day

Shifty

This event has been on the IMOC, MR2OC etc.... MR2 forums for a month or so now but I couldn't realy be bothered to go.

I have had a look at the posts (the aftermath) and there is a debate as to weather the record was broken.

The highest figure I found on there is 293 and apparently there was an attempt by some lotus club that achieved 313, so the jury is still out on the single manufacturer record.

As for the longest row of MR2's the record is broken (previously 162) but a single type of car or single manufacturer no. Evidently they didn't achieve there goal of around 400 (the number of people who signed up for this event)

Cant get the picture to work? help

EDGE

oe of the guys on the rebel forum was told as he lined up to the track...

"there's over 400 mr2's on site today, are ou staying to watch them...?"

to which he quickly replied..

"i didn't think there were that many hairdressers!!!"

Mean........... possibly yes...

but you gotta give him credit for being so quick !

that is a fair turnout for a single make to be hnest though, you'd be hard pshed to get 40  of anything else in a row.. the mr2 does seem to have a cult following

Shifty

That's because it's such a schweet ride,

To be serious though you do get a lot of car for your money especially with a tubby. I cant think of any other mid rear or any other layout car in its class that will out do it for the money.

Apart from only being able to get two people in the car I cant think of a single flaw with the car.

Great performance, reliability, handling, build quality, price, good looking, frat, economy, reasonable running cost, reasonable insurance and the list goes on.

Feel free to try and diss the image but the MK2 is exempt from the hair dresser comment. Feel free to say this about the MK1 and 3 though, seriously it's true.

No, it isnt.

Shifty

It's to big a car and it's a bit to butch to be a hair dressers vehicle of choice, not by much though I have to admit.

Roadkill

I think the MK1's are getting a little old to be hairdressers cars, now . . . . They're more """classic""" motors, now.

THe MK3's are definately poofs cars, though - no question.

Roadkill

Thinking about it - Chris has got some really good piccys showing the MR2's all lined up from in the grandstand . . .

maybe legal to only have 2 in it... but we got 3 in one once...

EDGE

I saw one in a car park once with 4 people in it, if I ever saw them again would beat the sh1t out of them. They used the T-top straps behind the seats to restrain the Kids behind the driver and passenger who were sitting on the ledge. Totally irresponsible parenting.

Nice to know my colour is one of the least common, by the looks of it I would have been in one of the nearer (shorter rows).

Impressive site though, wish I had gone now. 'O' well.

Pod

I did like the way they put the real muppets (ie lambo doors, wrong body kits and worse paint jobs) in a separate area by themselves.

I think it says something about MR2 owners, that almost every driver had to stop and ask which row to park in.

Roadkill

As mentioned on the day - the word "anal" got used alot in the description of the organisation . . . .

That guy in the red sweater clearly owned a MK3. :ghey:

MK 1 = Thing they're really cool.....too old now though to buy in my opinion for what they are....

MK 2 = Up until 6 months ago, didn't care much, then had a ride in A mates apparently 'Limited Edition Gold Badge' model (!!), Very quick, and damn fun.....

MK 3 = Too big, To Porsche wannabe and literally does nothing for me at all. I think they look like the 'Wives Sports Car' (Without trying to sound sexist!)

Regarding that turnout though, Thats brilliant, looks good.....

The Mark one has a clarity of line and purpose which the next models lost, just like the Datsun Z cars

We could probably find enough 3rd gen Camaro's

Giant door stop on wheels...

Shifty

Every MK2 owner secretly wants a MK1, this I'm not afraid to admit goes for me to.

Always been a fan of the MK1 hence Gouda (it's resemblance to a triangle of cheese).
Even though it was designed around 25 years ago it will still out handle most cars on the road.
I remember being given a run for my money round a round a bout in MK whilst out in a lotus 7 style kit car and they can really handle.

MK1 project in the future for me i think. Wouldnt stay N/A for long though, nor would it have the origional engine in it. mmmmmmmmm MK1.5 for the win.

that's just fooking wrong... at least there were 3 adults in this one, and we only went round the corner in it, but still... not something ill be doing again...
