If he lost control (Very High Chance He could have) and crashed into your family, killing all but yourself, (Not worth thinking about, I know), you would ask for more than 5 years. They are asking for 5 years based on trying to scare people off doing it in the future.

The problem isn't that they are trying to give him A high penalty in my eyes, it is that murderers are getting A stupidly low sentance IMO.
