Ok so you have a Porsche 911 with 175,000 miles on the clock and need to change the engine

I know lets put a 500ci ( 8.2 litre ) Cadillac engine in it

It should be a called a Porschillac

It's the time that we kill that keeps us alive...

very nice piece of engineering there, but its still a porsche.....

Roadkill

A waste of a big block Caddy lump, IMO.

Fieldy

mmm

Aren't Porsches already close to being to rear heavy with their standard lump? surely this would only escalate the problem considering only the recent models are getting it nearly right?

each to there own i guess....

Porsche Carrera GT is the only half desent looking one they made IMO.

The engine now looks to be in front of the rear wheels so it is probably better balanced front to back but the C of G would almost certainly be higher, probably cant handle for s**t now, never the less I would have never bothered doing this myself.

Personally if I wanted to make my 911 go faster I would have just transplanted a newer turbo engine into it, this would have been more powerful and lighter.

Nice install though, cant fault the engineering behind it, very cleverly done.

Porsche have been getting it right for years, the 911 since it's release has pretty much been as good as if not better than it's peers in all departments.

A couple of years ago a friend let me take his 2002 Carrera 4S out for a drive and I couldn't fault it at all what so ever, a truly awesome piece of automotive engineering.

Except looks

HardRockCamaro

I drove one of the latest GT something of other ones at Palmers and frankly I don't see what the fuss is about.
Well made?  Yes.  Smooth?  Yes.  Quick?  Not bad but hardly special.  Handles well?  s'alright.
Feels good?  Nope.  Just a lot of badge going on imho.

That big heavy Caddy engine in the back must really muck up the already dodgy (on that generation) handling.

2002 Carrera 4S

That's what I'm saying. A 2002 model will be considerably different. The generation of Porsche which is mentioned above the Porsche engineers were no way near the right balance with the original Porsche engine, let alone this heavy lump.....

Maybe one day Porsche will higher some decent designers and make the 911 look as good as it's engineering deserves.

even the household stuff which is supposed to be Porsche designed looks boring:

not much imagination going on there, no wonder they haven't changed the look of their cars.  they must have fired all the designers to pay for the engineers.

Pod

You've missed the point - it doesn't have to look good as it's got 'Porsche' written on it.

I dont know i think this is still the nicest porsche ever built

50's styling for teh win!!!!!!11111

Shifty

By today's standards the 80's cant handle for crap but they were no worse than all the other cars of their day, they were most certainly at the better end of the handling scale.

And as far as looks are concerned the 911 is absolute porn, there has been a couple of bits of styling over the years I haven't quite agreed with but there is no way it is an ugly car.

Looks like I need to educate some people on here.

The 911 looks like a squashed, flattened Beetle (due to having the same, not-overly-imaginative designer )

The Beetle is kinda cool because it's kinda ugly and kinda crap.
(same goes for the camper vans)
The 911 just isn't.
