Anyone got the TPI insider tips book ? or know where to get one.

I've got the outside of the camaro as good as i can get it without a full respray so i'm looking at spending some wedge on engine / chassis mods.

Things I've done so far are.

Headers, Cat back, TB coolant bypass, Air foil, 2200 stall TC, TCI streetfighter 700r4

Next I'm thinking

K&N filters , adjustable fuel regulator ( dont know much about this mod ) SLP runners and some sort of intake base, SFC's. not to sure what to do first though

Basically I'm trying to go as far as possible with bolt on mods.

so what do you guys reckon and anyone up for coming in on a purchase from Summit , Jegs or the like ?

HardRockCamaro

I have the book.

You've made some good mods already.

I'd buy the foam filters from TPI Specialities along with their fuel pressure regulator and fuel pressure gauge (so you can set it).  Increase the fuel pressure to about 48psi.  The regulator is underneath the intake plenum so you'll have to remove the runners and plenum to do the job.

While you have the plenum in your hand you should remove the "wall" that is  just inside, behind the throttle body.  You can do it with a dremmel.  You can also port and polish the runners/plenum and intake manifold.

If you want to spend more you get a new larger bore or even siamesed runners.  But you'll get much better results changing everything from the intake manifold up.  Ideally with the superram or miniram although accel also make an excellent intake.  I'd rather do that than fit say the TPIS big mouth manifold and larger runners.

At the is point however you're beyond what the stock chip can handle so you'll need a custom prom.

I have some scans from a magazine article of a comparison of intakes for TPI motors, I'll see if I can find and upload it...

CJ-IROCZ

Cheers.

The whole prom thing is the reason i cant go to far into it, I do want to sort out the whole intake area though. Is there anyone in the U.K that can sort out a new prom for me if i decide to replace the whole intake ?

Where did you get your book from Andy ?

I think I ordered it from TPI Specialities...

If you buy your stuff from there you can get a prom burnt by them.
Or by FastChips.

You can't do much to the intake without needing a custom prom, only port matching and so on.

Thanks for the links guys.

I'm thinking HSR

Although i am looking for as much of a bolt on / direct swap application as possible.

CJ-IROCZ

Right I've mde my mind up. I'm going to order a set of SLP runners and port them and my intake. Also going to get an AFPR and gauge and K&N filters

Opinions ?

Does anyone want to come in on an order ?

Can someone explain to me in laymans terms what the best way to port match my intake , plenum and runners ?

Is it a case of buying a tpis big mouth gasket and porting my intake runners and plenum to match the gasket. I have searched the 3rdgen boards but there is sooooooo much inof that its confuses me.

Andy ???????

Rocky

I have the runners already they are pretty large as standard. If you want any pics let me know they are still in the box.

dont go with a accel intake bases as they use edelbrock castings now which show a decrease in BHP over standard baseplate.

Any SLP parts i can get trade on mate.

Port matching is just that - making both sides the same size.
Easiest way is take the gasket and draw round the inside of the hole. That will show you how much and where it needs grinding.

Rocky

Also applies when fitting headers, always gasket match them as there is always excess material that no one bothers to remove.

CJ-IROCZ

I've just got my first ever credit card with a £5000 limit so i'm considering a top end rebuild with vortec heads and the like

Must resist

I'm glad you said that, so maybe just port match the stock intake / plenum to the runners ?

The HSR does seem cracking value but i'm not sure if I like the look of it and it doesn't seem like a simple install.

Rocky are you SLP runners slightly siamesed ??

Thanks mate, I thought thats was what it was

AS&M keep coming up as the dogs b*llocks runner  so I reckon this might be the way to go although I would be interested in seeing how much you could get the SLP runners Rock , if you dont mind.

Next question

I'm considering going with these heads and a mild cam but are they suited to a TPL apllication i.e would the Intake bolt up to them ?

Rocky

Looking at there new online prices i think i could knock off only about $25-$30  i get larger discounts in bulk buying. Also their shipping is high so its better to get alot in one order i have a few people waiting so if you know anyone wanting bits you will get your bits cheaper.

CJ-IROCZ

Okay mate.

I'm the only one I know in my area that has a 3rd gen so chances are it'll be just me.

so what sort of price would i be looking at in £'s delivered ?

I did look on their website but they dont seem to do a hell of a lot for 3rd gens

Rocky

They are cutting back alot on the 3rd gens, however alot of the stuff they dont list on there i can still get. Will get you some figures asap.

CJ-IROCZ

Okay mate,

First on the wish list is

SLP runners
header bolt kit
Good quality header gaskets
2 x K&N filters
Adjustable fuel regulator + gauge
good quality fuel filter

Let me know what you can do as i'm preaty much ready to order.

I'm going to port the intake and plenum to match the runners, so on that note do the SLP runners come with gaskets so that i can use them to gauge the porting ??

Rocky

Runners come with gaskets and bolts, yours seem to be a little more expensive on the site being its a 86 will try and find out why. I am awaiting prices at the moment. I will be getting headers, flowboosters, etc in anyway so hopefully shipping wont be too high for your bits,
As for other bits i use mann fuel filters unless using a high flow pump.
metco and bbk do good fuel regulators and accel do a good under hood gauge.

Rocky

The runners and header bolts plus shipping works out around £350 in total.
Going to have a chat with Steve @ Spohn tomorrow about some other bits so may be able to get some decent gaskets etc from there.

CJ-IROCZ

Okay cheers Rocky.

I'm just waiting to hear back from Summit to see what the shipping is like and i'll let you know mate
