The Caddy returns about 18mpg in slow London traffic, but up to 30mpg on a motorway run at 70mph.  At 50mph on a dual carrigeway near me I have managed to eek out 34mpg over a distance of 15 miles or so (some uphill, some downhill).

The IROC returns 30-32mpg @70mph on a long (200 mile) motorway run, but once did 42mpg @ 55mph on the same run.  That was a lot of effort though, a/c off, windows shut, lots of forward planning, no traffic holdups of any kind, and not using the cruise, controlling it myself which is more efficient unless you're on a flat road.  That was running on super too.
I've tried to reproduce it but the closest I've got is 37mpg....
Around London I'd guess it does about 20mpg at best.

It's all down to how you drive, traffic, and gearing...

Well mine was a mix in the end - drive up to Rugby from Hanslope (mostly motorway, sticking around 65-70 MOST of the time) and tootling around MK. Plus the odd "sod it I'm stamping on the throttle to get past this lot" bit... So I was being more careful than normal but not rigidly so. Well chuffed.

Must admit I put the cruise on for most of the constant, flat stuff. I was on bog standard Tesco regular on that tank too.

Not quite as much fun as normal but do-able.

Thats not bad. The V6 Camaro has averaged 26.4 in the week since i last put gas in it. That might not sound a lot, but the only 'run' its had in that week was to Avon Park and back. The rest of it has been the stoplight drag race into Bham city centre and back, and a load of messin around locally.

An average of 27 seems pretty good to me. Not really actively been measuring mine much until lately but mine has probably been pretty low overall (ahem! )

Road users pay about 50p a litre of diesel to the Government in fuel duty. In Europe it is only 25p.

Haven't laughed so much for ages

" Gordon Brown thinks that record fuel costs and driving taxes will benefit motorists in the long run, it has been reported.

The Prime Minister also wants to get all petrol-driven cars off Britain's roads by 2020 "

Good news but.................

"Asda said it would cut the price of unleaded petrol and diesel by 3 pence per litre, while Morrisons said it would cut both prices by 4p per litre.

BP said petrol and diesel prices at the 223 stations it operates would fall on average by 1p a litre"

So BP are going to be 3p a litre dearer than Morrisons ???
Although I suppose they will be expecting to maintain there £ billion pound profit over the next quarter

I say duck BP & Shell, my money's with Asda !

Don't get too excited.

The days of (relatively) cheap oil are over.  Forever.  Unless the oil companies find *massive* oil fields that are easy to get to.  World demand for oil is now meeting current supply so supply and demand is kicking in.

There is a lot of oil left (rough estimates say we've taken 50% out of the ground) but it's harder (and more expensive) to get at, or is in such small pockets it's not worth the effort.
