Whoa !

My '83 was the third lightest Camaro ever made !

It'll be the lightest when I'm done.

Flip Martian

Why was the last 2002 model so much heavier than my 1999 model?

HardRockCamaro

What spec cars are these numbers from?

I assume they're the lightest of each type?

Which means the old big block cars might close the gap on the modern alloy v8's.

art b

and there was me thinking marti had put on a pound.....

that 5th gen is still a fookin gr8 lookin car.....

No, that was definately a customer special.

Its easy to see the difference all that extra electrical stuff in modern cars makes to the weight - I was absolutely amazed at the weight of the stuff I pulled out of the camaro

Roadkill

Even more surprising as the later cars had many plastic panels to theoretically reduce the weight.

Can't remember the actual weight of a 4th Gen polypropylene door, but it's nearly double a steel one

Thats is because the plastic has to be many times thicker to have the required rigidity

I though they were heavier because of the ma-husive side impact bar, and the polypropylene was to reduce the weight to compensate....

This is why CAN-Bus is in common use now, to reduce copper weight and complexity of wiring...

I'm very surprised that the move to an Aluminium block in '98 didn't reduce the weight.... Unless they are looking at V6 cars

Mine weighs 1680kg fully fueled - weighed on our DOT weigh bridge

So that's 3,703 lb's which is about right on the graph

So where the hell did the extra fat come from... It must have lost loads of weight over the iron block of '97 yet it gets heavier...

Dammed if I know because the basis chassis structure dates back to the '82 3rd Gen which was only about 3,000lb's

So that's an overall increase of 272kg = About 3 male adults

At over 90kgs each I'm guessing you mean three fatties, don't you ?
