As far as I'm aware you need to drop the whole cradle (ie inc engine) then separate them.

Install the engine to transmission and frame assembly.
Install four transmission (bell housing) to engine bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 75 N·m (55 lb ft).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

What do you do after Lunch

v8mad0

Wow thats prob why the quote was so dear

Thanks for that

HardRockCamaro

What was the quote for ad how much?

I've heard £3,000 - £3,500 all-in for head gasket replacement (hopefully including the important timesert process).

I'd be curious to know what transmission work comes to...

v8mad0

The car's forsale due to it needing a new torque converter shaft seal. This is what he is thinking it is, and has been quoted £1,600

Do the heads not come off with the engine iin then?

HardRockCamaro

Not as far as I'm aware.

You have to drop it to get the clearance to remove the heads due to it being transverse.

What are the symptoms of needing this seal?

That's a symptom if ever i read one!

my concern would be finding a garage with enough specialist knowledge to do the job properly - the northstar is not a simple engine, and i highly doubt the box is either.
