I need to buy a laptop for work use, seeing as GM can't afford one

Budget £400 max of my hard earned pounds

Software : Office what ever ( Excel , Powerpoint , Word etc ) although I could use free office again

A large as possible screen because I'm going blind, 100Gig hard drive, CD/DVD writer, a couple of USB ports and built in Wi-Fi would be useful

With 400 total budget you'd need to as office aint cheap!! - but in all seriousness OpenOffice new version is very good and does everything you'd need!

I would have a look on the Dell website at the "Home" version of the inspiron or the vostro (i think thats there std models) as they do some real nice deals on there

We use Dell Latidude's and XPS's at work...far fewer reported problems compared to the Toshiba's we used to have.

Bear in mind that the size of the screen is not the important factor if you're having eyesight trouble.

The important thing to work out is the pixel density.

If you have the option of a standard or high res screen, go with the standard as each pixel will be larger.

Toshiba = not great build quality -had loads of issues in the past

Compaq / HP = OK but depends on what model and where it made as some are fine, others ...meh
