If they let us build more roads instead of chaining themselves to the trees traffic would flow better and we wouldn't spend so much time idling...

the real irony is that its a complete myth.

as the engine is started, for a moment there will be a couple of compression strokes where fuel is injected and not burned. aside from shortening the life of the catalytic converter, this wasted unburned fuel contains FAR more pollutants than if the engine were allowed to remain running.
