So. I've gotta start looking for some 4.11:1 gears, then, eh ?

I think you got it right with 3.73's, but if you change the box to the Viper version down the road so that it's rated for more power/tourqe then it would be worth switching to 4.11's to even out the lower ratios in that version of the box...

Roadkill

Yah.  I'm just kidding.  I fully intend to run her how she is for a while - the noteable increase in power and handling and the reduction in overall weight will keep me happy for a little while, I'm sure.

O.K - To summarise the slight balls-up on the gauge front I really need one of the Auto Meter 1480's - but it MUST have a chrome bezel.

Now the Auto Meter site doesn't mention anything about the bezel, but shows it as chrome :

http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugedetail.aspx?gid=3595&sid=18\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugedetail.aspx?gid=3595&sid=18

The Jegs site, again, doesn't mention anything about the bezel but, again, shows it in chrome :

http://www.jegs.com/i/Auto+Meter/105/1480/10002/-1#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http://www.jegs.com/i/Auto+Meter/105/1480/10002/-1#

However the Summit Store shows it as "black chrome" and states in the description that it's black chrome :

I think Summit are actually using a picture of the Automter gauge 1488 (3 1/8")  - however that is also show on the Autometer site as having a Chrome Bezel !!! :

I've also found this for $10 cheaper . . . :

Might be worth getting whoever you buy from to phisically check it for you...

Nothing in their literature suggests it wouldn't.... Is that suitably noncommital...?

The eBay seller is the registered UK distributor for Nitrous Express...

I'd feel better if HE sold the bottles, too . . . .

Titsy

you could enquire, but if he only distributes for NX then their bottle arn't certified for use in Europe, so I can see why he might not stock bottles....

Am now once more pushing ahead . . . .

Main concerns at the moment are :

Lack of correct speedo . . . . . I've emailed AutoMeter direct and hope to have an answer soon.

Headers . . . . I need to acquire a right-angle drill attachment to open-up a stud-hole to fit a heli-coil in . . . I've found said attachment and will purchase shortly . . . . PURCHASED.

Power steering . . . . F*ck knows at the moment . . .

Loom . . . . titsy !

Hi Dean,

The 1480 does indeed have a full chrome bezel on it. It should integrate nicely into your dash. Hope this helps, please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Dashboard Indicator lights have now been ordered from VWP.

New Autometer Speedo has been ordered from Stat Racing.

I'm currently chasing Ram Air Box regarding the air cleaner lid I want, too . . .

On top of that I'll be shortly ordering some more crackle paint so I can get the gauge plate finished and gauges installed . . . probably late this month.

VIPER

Had 373's in the viper for a while and hated every second of them... Back to the stock 307's

Roadkill

With the Borg Warner T5 and 3.73 gears it meant first gear was utterly useless . . . and it was screaming in fifth at only 70mph !!!

However the ratios are different in the T56 and should work slightly better in first and much, much better in sixth.

The 3.73 is my stock rear gearing as my Z28 was origianlly the H.O option.

Roadkill

Some "progress" to report . . . or NOT as the case maybe.

We test fitted the replacement steel bonnet I brought off of Rocky a couple of months back last night . . . fitting was straight forward enough (tapping the holes out certainly helped !) but on closing the bonnet it became very apparent that, no matter how much adjustment I made to it, it would never sit straight.

The reason ?

The bonnet's got a major f*cking crease in it !

Not easily apparent off of the car - I'm not a professional of course (although the rough filler / sanding marks and dusting of grey primer should've given it away, really), but compare it to the smooth, clean lines of my Z28's front fenders and, even in the dim evening light, it was immediately obvious.

One side of the hood is fine, the other actually protrudes over 10mm ABOVE the D/S front fender, causing it to rake down low above the D/S headlight !

I'm no body man but no amount of fettling is gonna get that in.

On closer inspection the damage is clear.
There's been a rush-repair to the outer skin (pitted filler and a coat of primer) and underneath the structural ribs are uneven and rippled compared with the other side and, again, there's signs of rush repairs and rust from where the bonnet was creased originally.

Long story short - the bonnet will be coming back off of the Z28 . . .

My Camaro is perfectly straight and solid so I'm not going to be putting a shitty scrap panel on it.  Period.  It's way too good for that !!

I'm a bit pissed off that I paid a top-dollar price (£80 IIRC) for a panel that is utter crap - or requires at least a couple of hours in the 'shop (more than it's worth) to rectify !

Clearly I should've checked the panel over much more thoroughly and NOT believed the description, or vendor, in the slightest.

I blame myself.  I'm too trusting, it seems.

Anyway, if anyone knows someone with a very bent third gen in need of a very bent bonnet then let me know . . . . they can have it for a tenner just to get the f*cking thing out of my way - I'm sure there's people queueing up for these things !!

Roadkill

Thanks, mate but will pass.

The reasoning for the RS (steel one) was to fit a cowl scoop too . . . .

Now that's out of the window I'm just gonna use mine . . . . I did consider buying that one for a minute or to but then I'd end up with three bonnets . . . . two useful but the same and one that's what I wanted but utter sh!t !

Plus I just don't even have £20 at the moment . . . which makes the fact I spent £80 on a complete pile of crap even more irritating !
