no hanging around then

No, all systems "Go" for as long as I can . . . .

ianjpage

cool - any idea on IF it will be fired before the move or not ??? (can't be much left to do to start it now . ... or u still waiting on parts?)

Roadkill

Still waiting on parts . . . . It WON'T be fired before it's moved, however I am hopeful that it may happen this year (ie 2010) - so much so that I intend to pick up some fuel come pay day.

I need to write a list of "To do" jobs out, really . . . . .

Titsy

What needs to be done to fire her?

I'm thinking:

Finish Fitting Exhaust
Water Pump + Fan Relay Box Wiring
Fill with Coolant and Bleed Air (how are you going to do this without a bleed screw? )
Pulley + Belt
Rocker Covers
Prime Oil
Ignition Timing
Fit Spark Plugs (have you got spares as at least on was cracked?)
Fuel + Prime
Set-up Carburettor
Turn Key
Bleed remaining Air from Coolant System
Tweak Carburettor
Have a Celebratory Beer
Change Oil and Filter
Change Fuel Filter
Have another Beer!

Nope.

There's enough of an exhaust on there to start her, now . . .

But it would be nice . . .

Fill with Coolant and Bleed Air (how are you going to do this without a bleed screw?

I've got a bleed screw - it's attached to the thermostat housing.

The rest sounds about right except the Carb - it should run well enough out of the box for now.

I have some further possible work on the coolant lines before coolant goes in . . . . I'm on this today . . . .

Fuel + Prime

Just fuel, really - the pump will do the rest.

Quoting: Titsy
Fit Spark Plugs

Well reminded - need spares.

I'll add to that list.

Remove Crank hub.
Broach slot in hub.
Refit hub & new balancer.
Position motor @ TDC.
Make / fit / position timing tab / pointer.
"Install" timing tape . . . . . .

That's gonna be the major remaining job for me, really . . .

Four stainless brackets are in production and will be finished, ready for collection, tomorrow - for just £10 !!!

Collected.

Just need to mark-out and drill the fixing holes which I'll do today.

Quoting: Roadkill
I'll be able to make-up a timber jig to accept the pipes and brackets and take it back down there so they can weld it up next week.

Timber Jig is 95% done - just need to triple-check my measurements and acquire some small ractchet straps.

Have spoken to the fabrication company and they can weld it up easily before next weekend so they'll be ready to go on.

I've tracked down some suitable fixings to fit the pipes, too and will order them on Monday.

Done.

I've also been measuring up for some  . . err . . "aids" for jacking the car up.
As she sits quite low and I don't really want to be stuffing a jack under any nice shiny bits I'm designing a lifting beam for the front and the rear . . .
These will basically span the chassis rails so you can place a jack under this, then once at the desired height you can then position axle stands at the ends of the beams, directly under the rails . . . .

Should be a simplier, safer alternative - and protect the shiny things, too !!

nice workbench

All the physical work was done outside . . . . but the trunk was the closest flat surface to the door.

Fit Spark Plugs (have you got spares as at least on was cracked?)

After much calling round yesterday I have ordered another 10 Bosch Platinum's from Rock Auto + Priority shipping + VAT = £3.40 each . . . . .

Which was LESS than a THIRD of what I ws quoted over here !!

Also - the sidepipes are going in for welding today.

Associated bolts / fixings were ordered yesterday.

Had already spoke to a local firm, yesterday, about broaching it.

Dropped it off this morning - will pick up later.

UPDATE:

The packages from the states arrived !!!!

All present and correct - just gotta start working on it.

Have brought some parts into work today for painting during my lunchbreak so they can harden before friday's session.

Got some jobs to do tonight . . . . . . . .

Roadkill

Due to an unusually slack day at work I've managed to do a few bits . . .

Hub now has a keyway cut and has been cleaned-up and repainted.

New balancer has been cleaned and painted.

The new lower steering column sections have had their bare mild steel parts painted, too.

Have now purchased the 800mm belt (it's sooo cute) and have 10 litres of water and 5 litres of anti freeze, here, at work, ready.

The sidepipes are done, ready for collection and the lifting beams will also be ready tonight . . . . I may pick them up tonight - not sure yet.

Still a bit further to go yet . . .

She's now in storage over winter so the next major amount of work will be carried out in March I'd guess . . . .
