EDIT - Ian - Re. our discussions yesterday . . . . . There are now 1.65 ratio rockers available . . . And my springs can eat the extra valve lift . . . .

Oooo now i bet that's tempting

Quoting: Roadkill

Could pick up a few extra HP for "relatively" little out lay . . . . . . . . . And as my top end is back in pieces I don't see why not.

Hmm do tell more....

Roadkill

Actually 1.7 RR's are available (with "minimal" mods) giving .600" of valve lift !!!

The Mods in question should push her well into the 400Bhp territory.  It's top-end mods so to make it safe everything needs up-and-over-rated.

I can make some basic changes that open up a bigger selection of performance parts . . . . it's all money, though . . . and research, too.

Yeah, I've got a set of billet ally 1.6 Ratio S.A RR's . . . . . 6 good, 10 not so good.

Another $2,000 shopping list

Quoting: Cunning Plan
Seriously?

Well about $1925ish depending on other bits . . . . there's some fairly serious stuff on there, though.

Will need to machine bits of the LT to get them to fit.

I'm basically creating a S.B.C Gen 1.5 Motor.

I think I'll pass...

Roadkill

The Z28's on hold until I can justify spending the $2000 I need to . . . The initial rush is unnecessary, now, anyway so I don't feel as bad.

Have plans in the making . . . .

O.K, with the 15lb Nitrous kit removed from the shopping list that makes it around £1100 including shipping & taxes (apparently).

Should still see some solid gains from what's on the list but with the extra shipping charges the NO2 kit was effectively costing £496 . . which is good but I just don't want it that bad.

I'll be putting in my expenses tomorrow so . . . . . (just because we don't have a "Summit" smiley)

Roadkill

Just ordered the 3/4" Steering Heim to support the column from the states (it worked out cheaper that way !!)

Also ordered two 500mm lengths of 316 Stainless, 3/4" bar, too . . . Stainless worked out only slightly more expensive and at least I don't have to worry about painting it or it rusting !

Expenses went in today, also . . . . . . . . .

Steering Heim arrived - excellent quality - bargain.
Stainless bars arrived (eventually) - perfect.

Order to Summit placed "££££" - Exchange rate of $1.52/£ - Cheers, Paypal

The recent ebay sales helped buffer the purchases, at least.

FYI, on the list :

New Camshaft,
New Lifters,
New Guide Plates,
New Rocker Studs
New Push Rods,
New Full Roller Rockers,
New Double Roller Timing chain and gears (that'll be fun fitting that !!)
2 more Hood pins (making 4)
Camshaft Tool
Push Rod Checking Tool
Remote Starter Trigger (for testing)
and Lube.

Still need a water Pump gasket kit . . . .

Only just seen this but I could've spared you an off cut of stainless from here, unless it had to be 316? We've got a generic pile of 'Stainless' that we use for making gauges or just bits of tooling.

Roadkill

316 was preferred . . . Some of the others are a little softer and not as corrosion resistant.  Didn't want to take any chances.

If I have to do the steering column a THIRD time round I'll give you a shout.

Roadkill

Some "progress" apparently . . . Although it looks awful.

As if I haven't got enough to be dealing with at the moment completely out-of-the-blue my brother phones me up an offers to start doing the bodywork on the Z28 . . . . almost one year after he was supposed to start.

Well.  He's managed a day's worth of work . . . . no sign of him today !

It's utter chaos, here . . . The Fourth Gen is over my parents (no room here) . . Mondeo's parked across the street (no room here) and the Caddy is parked outside (need the room in the garage).

Utter chaos . . for how long ?

Anyway - Some pics . . .

Rear D/S lower panel is the worst . . . it's had a very minor scrape at some stage that's been well repaired but has kinked the lower surface that caused rust behind the plastic trim panels.  The rust is removed, the area treated and new metal put in.  He's also made a start welding up the old spoiler holes, too.

Not bad for a 30 year old car.

In other news . . . . Look what arrived yesterday

Oh for more time . . . . .
