Roadkill

I'll have a proper look when I'm on the P.C tomorrow.

Thanks.

Roadkill

I like the Speedhut gauge much more than the Autometer ones (much simpler and easier to read, IMO)

Unfortunately, from my experience, unless you're buying from Jegs or Summit shipping to the U.K becomes a ball-ache !

Roadkill

Found the Innovate controller here in the U.K for £118 delivered !!!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/INNOVATE-LC-2-LC-1-AFR-WIDEBAND-CONTROLLER-O2-BOSCH-O2-SENSOR-3877-/300977237961\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/INNOVATE-LC-2-LC-1-AFR-WIDEBAND-CONTROLLER-O2-BOSCH-O2-SENSOR-3877-/300977237961

I'm assuming it's the same deal ???

As for gauges . . .

. . . .

*************************************************************

In fact - would two of these work ????  ($470)

http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/atm-3370/overview/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/atm-3370/overview/

??

They're the same as my gauges

And

EDIT - that lot comes to $500.91 meaning I'd get a $60 rebate from Autometer, too !! (just checked the terms and conditions and it doesn't say anything about being a US-resident)

They will, but with just a dial you have no immediate feedback that something is wrong. It's personal preference, but i'd go for something that either makes it obvious that your running in the danger zone, or that gives you some sort of alert or alarm.

The second choice autometers that I posted are obviously a little more pricy, but with peak hold an alarms they are ideal for tuning things and knowing when something is wrong:

Roadkill

Ahh, I get ya . . .

$20 cheaper at Summit !

(I must admit I've stopped even looking at Jegs, now - they're always more expensive and the International shipping prices and options are rubbish)

Yeah, I didn;t really shopp around as I figured you'd do that. I don;t really rate Jegs, but linked to them as when I went bake in this thread to find what gauge series you had you had links to Jegs.

Andy

RK,

I'm on my phone at the minute and loading up pages is taking yonks, can you tell me what ignition system you're using? Does it use any of the original ECU?

I'm planning something...

A key.

Would be difficult - that went out in a Tesco's carrier bag 7 years ago.

This project really wasn't planned.

Andy

I have the option to pick up a 70-80's block 350 which was built for a company to test parts on. Waiting to hear more details about it, the selling part would be it being a 4 bolt mains.

Now I'm trying to work out how I would run it, ECU, HEI dizzy etc.

Roadkill

Don't get hung up on a 4-bolt.   Really.  Unless your stroking and going for 800bhp it really isn't necessary.

If you do, carb it.

EDIT

I should also add that your axle casings will fail before your 2-bolt mains do . . . as is likely your prop and gearbox . . .

In other words . . Build from the back to the front !!  Not the other way around !!!

Andy

This has been on my mind. I have no idea how much a new rear end will cost, but am looking for something with a Posi in it.

My gearbox is a 700R4 which is effectively what the 4L60E is in a LS1 just without the electronic control. At least thats what I read.

You can fit an LSD to your axle . . . It depends on what ratio's you're running (and what diameter you've got) as to whether it's worth it or not.

That won't protect your casing, though.  A common fault is a failure at the point the tubular axle cases go into the gear housing casting.

Good box but if you're gonna be flexing a 350/4-Bolt's muscles then you want a TH350.  No question.

EDIT -

If you wanna go fast a 4-bolt won't get you there, not on it's own.  The third gens are (relatively) light cars and respond well to suspension upgrades.  If you want to shave time off of your 1/4 mile I'd STRONGLY suggest sinking £300-£500 quid into suspension, not double that on a 350.

Just my opinion.

Andy

Thanks RK!

I'm completely open to suggestions at this point. I do want to make it a pretty quick 1/4 mile car but one which is streetable. After seeing the woes my dad has with his lowered the suspension isn't going any lower but I am open to considering upgrading it.

Apart from losing weight, what advantages do tubular K-members give over the pressed steel ones?

The TH350 lacks the overdrive which I'd like to keep. I do intend to keep it as a bit of a cruiser so don't fancy losing the .75 drive. As it stands, it has 3.23 gears and a standard axle. Can't remember for the life of me what spec that means it is though.

Titsy

I think the biggest gains I made in reducing my times were in getting it to launch better. I's say a posi, Rear LCA relocation brackets, LCA's, torque arm and panard were a good place to start. I shaved over 0.5 seconds off my time by doing this as a good launch pays dividends.

If you've got plans to add power later then make sure the drive-train is fit for the job.

By changing the rear end LCA geometry so that it angles down towards the rear the axle has to push the rear of the car up in order to move forward. this results in the rubber being planted into the tarmac and you get much better traction off the line.

If your after a meaty trans but still with the OD then this guy builds a pretty robust 700r4:

A higher stall TC will help too as it will put you up in the power band sooner.

Absolutely

I'd also had shocks and springs . . .

From memory didn't you say your Dad's had dropped spindles ? - They're asking for trouble !!!
I've got Eibach lowering springs on mine with plenty of room (it's the headers that kill my clearance - NOT the springs).

I've got Tokico adjustable shocks so you can "dial-in" the stiffness level . . . good price, too.

What size tyres are you running atm ?

Roadkill

Getting back to the A/F gauges . . .

I've found the Innovate controller/sensors for £128, each, delivered.  Total £256.

Speedhut actually ship to the U.K so their price would be $261.90 delivered (+TAXES).
I've found these on eBay for £131.01, delivered, but reckon getting them from the states would work out a little cheaper . . even with the taxes added.

Also found the dual gauge pod on eBay (US) for £29.18 delivered (+TAXES) (same price as Summit but the shipping is half the price !)

THIS.CAR.IS.AWESOME!

Loving the work you have done to this chap it's going to be a weapon!

MOT = Road time! Can't wait to see it tearing up the streets of the Keynes when she is running good!

Not enough awesome shit in MK.

Don't rush getting it on the road though as like you said above you want to make sure she is running sweet! But, god damn when that thing hits the streets it's gonna be EPIC!

Would love to have a snoop round it some time soon!

Let us all know when you decided to take it to a meet or show as I just gotta see that thing rolling!

Keep it up mate the end is in sight!

She's in storage over winter but she'll be back at mine in Furzton once I've sold a van I have and have gained an extra parking space back.

I know I'm going to need to re-visit the exhaust again but will wait for warmer weather . . . Hoping it don't cost too much as well.

Whats the plan with that or is nothing drawn up yet?

Roadkill

I've been trying (unsuccessfully) NOT to think about it . . .

The cross-over box is a clearance issue but is needed - really - as I said to you regarding cross-overs.

That said mine's far from stock so I may (as an experiment) try and run two straight tubes behind the collectors and just dump them downwards to the road.

The back-pressure is going to be seriously reduced so I'd only do it when I'm able to keep an eye on the AF ratio . . . (which is more money).

I'm directing some big money towards the Cadillac this year so want to get that under way . . . hopefully by Spring I can find a few hundred to sort some AFR sensors and gauges . . .

As I say, though . . I'm trying not to think about it at the moment - I've got too much going round in my melon at the moment !!!

Ralph

Just slap some screamers on there and get yourself on the road! haha

Yes won't be the best performance wise for the car but you must be gagging to get that thing on the road!

It's an all motor car isn't it no turbos or such so hasn't got to be that complex?

My issue is the long tube headers being so low . . . They said it was gonna be a PITA but I did it anyway !

Ralph

Just leave them open where they fall the noise alone will be well worth it! ;)
