It would be mega cool if you could have one of those programable display screens

What kinda like a Widescreen PC monitor for a Dash?
It's the time that we kill that keeps us alive...

What do you think about getting something like this made up for a custom instrument panel?

Looks good . . . and only £33.

EDIT - Sammy's collected my paint so it looks like the trans is getting done tonight.

That way you can decide on the layout and toggle display screens etc

I think dials will suffice...

Well that's a surprise I thought you'd be in your element there, adjusting all the incoming signals and display properties

Well there are a couple of options for all in one displays

Stack make this one

SPA Design make this one

Both run about £800

Power Steering Pump - ON A STEEEK !

PMSL!!!!!!!

Greame, that first stack display is the one used by van demon on the formula palmer cars - its rubbish. the tach movement is sticky and jerky, and the display is hard to read while moving.

would look wrong in a road car too, IMHO

Titsy

The SPA unit is only 200mm x 100mm total, which means the dials and display will be tiny.... But it is very neat...

Well thats 4" tall so the speedo and tach would be the same size as whats currently already there which are probably 3.3/8"

You're probably right there, but working on that premis it will never fit an instrument panel with this outline:

There's just not enough space in the top centre of that outline, you need to spread it out a bit...

Regarding the gauges . . . .

Firstly.

I'm not a fan of LCD re-outs on them.  LED ain't too bad but LCD.  No.

Secondly.

Although good for research purposes, and as I explained to Titsy last night, I simply do not have the money for gauges at this time.  All money is being directed into items to get the engine back into the car.

Yes, I need to start thinking about them but purchasing isn't gonna happen for a few months yet - I've got other things requiring my time, attention and money before then.

Roadkill

Anyway.

UPDATE !

The T56 is now in paint . . . . and like a true hardcore I was out in the garage before work at 7am refitting the solenoid, sensors and new shifter.

The results -

And, Yeah, O.K, the suspected CAGS solenoid is actually, in fact, the reverse lock-out and IS being refitted.

So it needed painting before that.

Next jobs - Finish painting :

The brake booster and brackets . . . then finish the flywheel dust cover . . .

I've emailed a guy who I've been buying some bits from (via ebay) recently for a price.

That way I get a check price - and possible can piggyback on postage.

Quick thanks to Tisy for tearing into the Z28's dashboard last night (planning for future gauges, switches and lights has begun).

Also we managed to mate the gearbox back on the bell housing and I got the Spohn X-member fitted to the box.

Got the flywheel guard painted, too.

Next jobs are the booster and brackets - that'll be saturday.

Then it's back out with the POR15.  Yay.

It might be easier to fill the gearbox with oil before you put it in the car

Certainly easier to fill . . . unfortunately it's likely it'll all run out the tail during re-fitting as the rear "seal" is not, actually, a seal.

That's very thin line of defense should it contact the transmission tunnel on the way in !

Titsy

Why not remove the end section from the prop shaft and wedge it in place?

Probably easier to leave it empty them

Because that still doesn't make a "proper" seal . . .

Quick update . . . .

Random brackets finished . . . . (yes I know there's a pot of vaseline in the background)

Brake booster finished . . . Just gotta do the brake pipe unions next and refit.

Roadkill

Mini-update.

I've just installed the LT1/T56 clutch slave/master cylinder assembly to the bulkhead and also refitted the brake booster.

I've removed the old speedo cable as it's now obvious it won't work with the T56 so is useless.

I'm just about to put the last coat of primer on the main brake union casting and, depending on how much beer I drink later, may even go out after my shower in my dressing gown and put some top-coat on it so it can be refitted (hopefully) tomorrow . . .

We'll see . . .
