yeah the game normally prompts you to update it when you log in to your online account (which is compulsory as far as I know), which at my house with ppl installing off a DVD will take a while... I didn;t know if there was a way to manuall patch the game or not.

Yeah... good call.

ianjpage

yeah 800mb x however many people / <1mb internet = people (lol)

FUBAR

we get about 3mb now... but thats a different conversation.  I still need to 100% verify that I can use my BFBC2 game to install on other peoples PCs... i'll look into that this evening.

FYI BFBC2 has NO Bots, but it does have multiplayer game modes specifically aimed at circa 8 people which should be fine. However it will all be PvP play rather than PvB.
It'll be good fun

BF 1942 as well knowing Dean

Maybe some BF DC, too ?

I'd classed all those as BF1942 TBH

I guess we will need steam accounts? I have one, assuming I can remember the password etc

Ok...
Houston we have a slight problem.

I have confirmed that I can install the game on my mum's PC using Online authentication for up to 9 additional machines... However.

BFBC2 has NO LAN SUPPORT
This means that if we want to play this we all have to connect to an external server (on my net connection this unlikely to support more than 3-4 players...)
An external server can be setup for about £8 a month for 16 players(which would be no problem, i'd pay for one just for the weekend) however I have no experience with this so do not know what control that would give me over game modes/ map sizes/ password protection etc etc.
DICE have not released any public server software for this game so we cannot setup our own, we need a proper ranked server from a reputable company.
There is 1 big advantage to this, you'd all get weapon unlocks etc as we played over the weekend, & I could use all the ones I already have (i.e. all of them!)

I'm researching, starting with http://www.rackage.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">www.rackage.com

From the Rackage forums it seems there are tools etc for setting up the games as we'd like, so thats not a problem, it all looks pretty simple. £8 for a month for a 16 player BFBC2 ranked server and then we're away...

...apart from the lack of a 15MB+ internet connection

Might be something to consider for the next LAN @ Deans, but unfortunately I doubt it'll be possible for this one

Looks like Ultimate Carnage will be the only new game available to us this time, as I KNOW this has LAN support much like FO2

Hmm thats a bugger about BFBC2 but yeah not really a go-er to rent a server for the weekend with a 3mb line for 8 people

Incursus

Bummer.

Anyway managed to install Ultimate carnage last night

Kept asking me for some XBOX Live crap! I don't remember that from last time.
I could play but not save or change my username...or at least it wasn't blinding obvious in the 5 minutes I messed around with it

Roadkill

Hmm.

What will I need to run Ultimate Carnage - minimum . . . ?

It would be handy If I could postpone a heavy up-grade.

Incursus

Still none the wiser.

Even if the rest of your system was up to scratch the new Graphics card won't fit your current Motherboard.

How about the neighbours wireless?

Their internet connection will be just as crap as FUBAR's... You have to live in an old part of MK to get a descent connection as all the newer areas were built with aluminium not copper lines, and because MK was planned and didn't just grow, the exchanges are fewer in number and so generally further away.

Glad I live in an older part of MK
