My Mum & Dad's going on holiday at the end of the month and my Dad is looking to get a new compact camera to replace his old brick-like Fuji.

Budget around £150 - any makes, any models.

Must be compact, simple to use but still have a few decent basic functions as my Dad's a bit of an old photographer so I think would appreciate the potential options . . .

I love my Casio Exlim but that's 6 years old now so I'm not sure if they're still good or not . . .

Casio probably still good.

Canon are the best, Pansonic are excellent too.

Fuji used to be s**t hot, don't know if they still are.

Budget's definately £150, tops . . .

Panasonics have decent quality lenses in that price bracket (bought my ex one a year or so back). Otherwise Fuji and Canon Sureshots are usually worth considering

Mines a Fujifilm F50fd had it 2 1/2 years not missed a beat.
Feels more sturdy than my Exlim did....and you know how solid the Exlim is!

I think the F70 is the latest version.
If its the one my Mum has (bought last xmas) then it was an improvement on mine but mostly in ease of use and zoom iirc.   Noticeably larger though.

The Exilims do benefit from big screens, though (a major factor when considering old'uns).

Good feedback.  Ta.

Do the Fuji's come with a docking thingy to upload pictures and charge it on ?

No a USB cable.

Oh and you have to take the battery out to charge it.  I remember being disappointed about that when I bought it...just got used it I guess.  Hardly ever have to charge it anyway.
Good if your a heavy user and have more than 1 battery, I imagine.

I bought the missus one of these a couple of years ago

Brilliant little camera, great functions, big lcd and easy to use. She often gets better shots than I do with a dslr. These are cheap as chips now so an upgrade to this should be within the price range

Having to remove a battery from a camera to charge it doesn't seem like much of a chore to me

The Panasonic FS25 just won this weeks group test in What Digital Camera magazine for compacts up to £120...

I reckon I get over a 700 shots with my Exilim, at least, off of one charge.

I do like the docking facility - tidy and conveinient . . . it provides the camera with a safe home while not in use, too.

Goes in the draw when not in use and I don't have a cradle taking up desk / USB and Power space on my desk

Oh and the cable is considerably more portable.
I only get about 300 pics from one charge though!  I think... Bigger LCD Screen etc.

Do the Casio's even still come with a cradle?  The two you posted at the top of this thread don't appear too.  Not that it really matters Picture quailty (build and pic) and usability is what your looking for..

My friends Canon IXUS is pretty good...just to through another one into the mix!
