I dont rate them so much now, but ford made some real corkers in their time in the 60's 70's and 80's

my capri was the same colour, but it always looked black in photos unless it was bright sunlight.. mallard green.

There was quite a nice MK1 3000GT at the MK Show on Sunday, I didn't take a picture because I know some of our members only like Yanks

Very similar to this one, although I've never liked the standard matt black hood and window surrounds

First car I ever worked on - didn't have a clue what I was doing (still don't )

Cheap.

Seen them at 12-14k.

indeed, considering its mileage and condition (plus its such a significant model) its a good investment.

i'd sugest the capri 280 is prob in my top three  mainstream euro fords ever, along witth the RS500, and lotus cortina.

escort mexico / RS2000 would probably draw against the lotus, i'm just biased because I had a couple of cortinas!

mind you, the list of awesome 70 / 80's / early 90's fords was huge,

Mk1 Escort Mexico
Mk2 Escort Harrier
RS1800 mk1 (makes the mk1  mexico seem common!)
RS1800i mk3
RS2000
XR4i
Capri 2.8 / 280
RS500 (or any sierra cosworth)
Escort RS turbo (origional MK3)
XR3i (mk 3)
MK1 / MK2 XR2
Escort Cosworth

how many other manufacturers made so many cars that were so significant, the XR / RS range of fords really was hard to beat.

the South African XR8 was also awesome, a sierra with a 302!

The Cologne engined 2.8 was a much nicer handling Capri (which is an oxymoron in itself as they were all pigs) than the earlier Essex engined cars.

I had two 2x2 grano paving slabs strapped into the boot of my 3.1 RS to give it some weight, still almost killed me.

So you bought something safer like a V8 Camaro

An immaculate black 2.8 Capri is still a lovely looking car.

Every now and then a design comes along that is a real classic, where everything is just right, the proportions, the details, the curves.

Plus in the UK having a long bonnet, RWD and a relatively big torquey engine makes it the closest thing we got to a Us muscle car, which is what the designers were after according to the interviews I've seen.  They wanted a Mustang that worked in Europe.

philoldsmobile

the true irony is that for most of its production life, the fastest capri was normally faster than the fastest mustang!

even more ironic was when they fitted the mustang II with the capri / Granada 2.8 V6, just still managed to lumber it with 30 bhp less!

EDGE

a black/mallard green 2.8 injection special would do me just fine... a bloke up the road has just bought a white 3.0s !  bastid

my Godfather had a 3.0 JPS capri back when they were new... black with gold John Player Special graphics.... very cool at the time... and even cooler now !

A lot safer, the capri would throw its arse out at the slightest opportunity even at the lowest speeds; at high speed it was a potential killer if you braked too hard

philoldsmobile

my capri wasn't like that... .although it was a 1600 auto! managed a heady 21 second pass at santa pod!

Pod

I've always loved capri's. Even at school before I really knew what they were.

What happened to the last picture?

That was a picture taken looking through one of the mirrors showing the underside, I think it's mainly dust with a focus issue

It was like new, no better than new

I think thats where the difference lies

The camera is focussing on the dust not the car as it is the closest thing.
