On way back from Billing last Sunday I had the T Tops off and the tunes turned up, so much so that whilst on the M1 I blew the front off side door speaker, reducing it to making crackling sounds

So time to get the old speaker out, I can only get the this door open outside the garage

Now luckily they are mounted in a plastic housing which should make finding a replacement easier

Went to Maplins first and they were about 1/2" too small diameter wise, so I had to suffer Halfords

Hello Sir can I help you the fat geek looking teenager said
" Yes I'd like to find a replacement speaker to fit this housing "
What car is it from ?
" 1999 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 "
Ah I think you will have to go to the Chevrolet Dealer !
" No I just want an 17cm or thereabouts diameter average triaxial speaker "
What sort of head unit and amp are you running ?
" A Chevrolet one "

So I just told him to go and get out a couple of different speakers so I could see which would fit.

The only ones to fit the plastic housing and mounting screws perfectly I bought, now I know you audiofiles are now going to rape me for buying the wrong speakers

But it plays music and it fits, job done

Don't worry about the Chav look, there are completely hidden behind the door panel

When I compared the new speaker with the old speaker still fitted on the drivers side, the new one had slightly more bass and was a tiny bit quieter ( says the man who's nearly deaf anyway ). So time to do the other speaker :

The door panels are reasonably easy to get off, but a right bugger to get back on again. At least they don't have those plastic studs that always snap off

So it can be our little secret, the Chav speakers hidden inside F Body's door panels

There are some things that are better than being kept original.....

Rob

Replaced all mine with pioneers when I bought it as the crappy Monsoon paper coned ones just sounded crap.

Aftermarket will almost always be better than stock.

But why go to Maplins for car speakers?  Last I saw they were unknown brands while Halfords has loads of name brands, often half off?
